Issue with swatch pallets not showing current color

Recommended Posts

This issue plagued me when creating an illustrated book in Publisher 2.1 in grayscale. I am having the same issue in Designer 2 with all of the pallets. I can reproduce it all day. It is an issue that is frustrating.

This is in Windows.

I create an object.  Note that the stroke is a pink color even though it is obviously not. (I know I have some colors in my grayscale pallet. Newbie mistake)

If I select a color for the fill all is well. The yellow for the fill is selected since I selected it.

However, if I select the stroke color icon, the swatch is still yellow.

I make a new object and again the stroke color is not evident.

What color is the fill? Nothing is highlighted.

If I deselect everything then click on the layer, not the object, the fill shows up in the pallet.

However, if I click on the stroke icon I still get the fill color highlighted.

Yep, all these little things are frustrating.

Another one...

Switch to a different swatch, and the first entry is (usually though not always) highlighted even though the selected object does not use that colour for fill or stroke.

It was especially difficult with grayscale. I would want to darken or lighten a gray only to find that I had no idea which one I used. I would guess and usually be close but found that unless I double clicked on the color it would not stick (stay highlighted in the pallet.) For a while I used a slider that would give me the percentage of gray that I was using. I accidentally closed it and was never able to find it again.

Palette? To me in V1 it seems the visual position of the highlighted swatch is sticky … while Affinity doesn't care at all for the colour.

… and sticking highlight regardless of the palette – while I'd expect to get either none or the according "Recent" swatch highlighted.

This is in Windows.

This is a bit better on macOS (at least current 2.x versions) than on Windows, but the only thing that really helps is changing to list view:
