jameszavorski Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Hi, I have searched everywhere and I am either not using the correct search term, or something else... Is it possible to export a file in AD so that an user of another design program, e.g., Adobe Illustrator, can import the file with the dimensions that I used in the AD? For example, I set a circle to have a 20" diameter. Can the Adobe Illustrator user import the file and the circle is still 20" in diameter? Regards Quote
Hangman Posted December 5, 2023 Posted December 5, 2023 Hi @jameszavorski, I see no reason why not... What file format are you exporting your AD file to? SVG files could be a potential cause of size changes owing to the differing 'resolutions' adopted as standard for the SVG format by the two programs. jameszavorski Posted December 5, 2023 Author Posted December 5, 2023 I have tried formats PDF, SVG and EPS. I'd prefer to use PDF, however I will use anything which can preserve the dimensions. BTW, I am testing by importing back into AD the exported file and checking the sizes. Quote

What results have you found thus far... could you detail any specific size changes you seeing by letting us know the sizes you see in both programs? PDF files don't have a resolution but regardless you need to ensure that you are comparing the same units (which for PDF files will be points) in Illustrator and the document uses the same DPI (despite that sounding like conflicting information)... jameszavorski Posted December 5, 2023 Author Posted December 5, 2023 Thanks for jumping in, I am a fairly new user of AD, so bear with me as I fumble through this. Looks like I need to go to school on drawing scale and using the measurement tool. Thanks for your help so far @Hangman. Quote
