Hi, on every startup of Affinity Photo there is What's new popup.

image.png.717f9389960e38f8b7a1b5dab542c905.png

No matter what I click, it will show again on next startup.

Tried to uninstall app (move to Bin and empty it and also through CCleaner app uninstaller), installed it from download of your page and also directly from App store - no change..

Any ideas, how to kill the popup?

Thanks

Hi @VlastaP,

Likely a silly question but if you click What's New so it takes you to the relevant page, does the pop-up still appear the next time you launch Photo?

Hi @Hangman

not a silly question :) But yes, I've tried it, it's even in the original post "No matter what I click, it will show again on next startup." even if I view the webpage with news, on next launch of Photo the popup is back..

Hi @VlastaP,

As far as I'm aware, there is no way to switch it off so it sounds as though your system isn't recognising or acknowledging that you've previously launched Photo. The only thing I can suggest trying is to run a Factory Reset of Photo by holding down the Ctrl Key while launching Photo.

When the Clear User Data window appears, leave the first three items checked and then hit 'Clear' and let Photo finish launching, perhaps create a blank document, save it then Quit and relaunch Photo to see whether or not that clears the pop-up.

@Hangman thanks for tip, just tried it, but no luck, still, after every launch of Photo, there is the popup.

Otherwise the reset was successfull, all the custom settings of studio are gone, and another popup for new file are showing.. however the What's new modal is still there..

Hi @VlastaP,

Thanks for trying and for confirming that the pop-up still appears...

Likey another silly question but have you tried rebooting your Mac...

@Hangman, yes, tried rebooting (multiple times) and also completely uninstalling Photo and re-installing from 2 different sources (affinity download page and Apple App Store).

I have latest MacOS Sonoma 14.1.2 (23B92) and Intel i5 in 2020 macbook Pro.

Hi @VlastaP,

Very odd, I know @walt.farrell is running 14.1.2 so I think he would have picked this up if it were specific to that update so it's a little baffling as to the cause...

Hopefully, someone from the moderation team at Serif team can shed some light on this. At least you are still able to work, albeit annoying that you get the modal each time you launch Photo.

Is it only Photo or do you see the same modal when launching Designer and Publisher (assuming you have them)?

Thanks @Hangman.

Yes, it works fine, only the popup annoys me..

I have only old version of Designer V1, and it works great, without popup..

Photo was running OK too, before the upgrade to V2.

I'm not seeing this problem on 14.1.2, @Hangman, with my Mac.

I figured that would be the case so thanks for confirming... This is the third or fourth unexplained report I've seen today and the only thing they appear to have in common is the update to 14.1.2 but that clearly isn't the cause as you're not experiencing any issues...

Hi @VlastaP,

It sounds very much like a certain file hasn't been updated correctly for some reason.

Using Finders Go To Folder, can you go to this folder:
~/Library/Group Containers/6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs

and attach your cs.json file so I can do a quick check of it.

@VlastaP: Are you sure you're in

~/Library/Group Containers/6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs (which I think is a hidden directory) and not in

/Library/Group Containers/6LVTQB9699.com.seriflabs

Hi @walt.farrell

thank you, it is solved now.

Yes, I was in "~/Library/", not just in "/Library/". The file was not there.

So I installed Photo on my private macbook and opened the same folder and the file was there plus much more folders and files in "v2" subfolder..

I copied whole "v2" folder from my private macbook to my work macbook (I had to allow access to folder as admin, so there was probably some access rights issue), and it is working now, without any popup..

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Vlasta
