Affinity Photo 2.3 is out!

Did they teach AP2 to read the Nikon NEF format that's been out forever? No

Great. Did they fix old bugs? No.

So what did they do? Nothing of value to me.

The bugs I reported in

are still part of the new AP2.

That bug is still open with the Developers and when its been resolved, you'll get a notification in that thread to say its been resolved.

I take it you mean compressed RAW files?  If so, then no, the 3rd party RAW engine we use doesn't support compressed RAW files from a number of cameras at this stage, not just the Z8.

Then get a different 3rd party engine, or provide a work around.

Recently a fellow photo club member asked for recommendations for post processing software. I use AP a fair amount, and have work arounds for the AP problems that AP is not fixing.

What am I supposed to tell my colleague? Use Affinity Photo despite the fact that it can't read your raw files & will not work correctly on multiple monitors; the developers know about these problems but they are too busy inventing things I'll never use to fix them...

I initially chose AP because I did not like Adobe's pricing scheme. But given AP's upgrade schedule & Adobe's monthly subscription I now see little difference in cost to me.

And my Adobe friends tell me it does read their RAW files, and it does work on multiple monitors...

So AP has multiple problems on multiple monitors. Fixing one in some internal build is not of much use to me, except it tells me how seriously AP takes errors in their product.  On one of their web pages they brag that the products work on a variety of platforms: Windows, Mac, etc. That means nothing to me. I have one platform, Windows, & I want AP to work well on it.

Perhaps the problem is that AP is that AP is developed on Mac & ported to Windows. In which case the port introduces problems.

No, that’s not how it works. The core code for the Affinity apps is platform-agnostic, and then there’s a UI layer for each of the supported platforms.

Maybe that is their philosophy. But the fact is there are multiple errors with their product on a Windows platform. And the errors are old.
