MickM Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I'm a relative newbie using AD. I have a number of open tabs in AD and wanted to take a side-by-side screenshot of two versions of a diagram I'm making (each exists in a different tab). I assumed I'd be able to select a given tab and just move it to its own window but couldn't figure out how to do that, so I did what I can do in many other Mac apps and just dragged a tab out onto an empty spot outside the AD window. That got me another window, but not what I wanted. In addition, I then couldn't figure out how to close that window - even though it had the 3 traffic lights in the top left corner it refused to close. I tried a few other things and in the end I think what I did was a "Float View to Window" operation, however now I have two blank windows that can't be closed. If I quit AD and start it up again those two blank windows come up again - they can't be closed and now I have to put up with them all the time. I'm assuming this is a bug because windows were created that can't be closed (despite my dumb attempts at what I was trying to do). I'm using AD 2.3.0 and running macOS 12.7.1 (Monterey) on a 2019 Intel MacBook Pro. Quote
Staff Callum Posted December 4, 2023 Staff Posted December 4, 2023 Hi MickM, To merge any floating windows back together you may need to head to Window > Merge All Windows. To get your two projects side by side the best way to do this would be to open a blank document and then the two you wish to have side by side. You should then be able to left click and drag the tabs that contain your designs out of the app and position them side by side. Thanks C Quote Please tag me using @ in your reply so I can be sure to respond ASAP.
MickM Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 I had tried the Merge All Windows command before posting but it was unavailable (see attached picture). It's still (I think) a bug to have windows that contain traffic lights but the red one (to close the window) doesn't work. The other two (brown and green) perform as expected. [Captain's personal log - WTF, I only now just noticed the middle traffic light isn't yellow/orange anymore!] Quote
Roman_R Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I also have strange behaviour with Float to window option. Blank windows stay opened after Merge All Windows command. And I can not close them. I have to restart Publisher to get rid of them. MacBook Pro 2020 13", M1, Sonoma 14.1.2 Quote
Quote
iwans Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 I also experience this in AD, I had to reinstall Designer 2.2.1 Quote

Dan C Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Just to confirm, this is issue AF-1499 - which is slightly different to AF-1417 (which requires 2 monitors to occur). It's been logged with our developers as a priority issue, and also has an FAQ covering this, found here: I hope this clears things up! Roman_R 1 Quote
TheOtherRoland Posted December 25, 2023 Posted December 25, 2023 Discovering this bug was an unexpected Xmas present that I now wish to return. Staff Affinity Info Bot Posted January 3, 2024 Staff Posted January 3, 2024 The issue "[macOS] Floating and redocking a document creates an empty floating window which cannot be closed" (REF: AF-1499) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.3.1.2212". This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release. Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions. If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us. Quote
TheOtherRoland Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 Do you promise? I've had my heart broken before like this. Dan C Posted January 3, 2024 Posted January 3, 2024 We certainly hope so, as we have been unable to replicate this in our testing following the fix - but the 2.3.1 beta where the issue has been resolved by our team is planned for a customer beta (hopefully!) tomorrow, so I'd recommend keeping your eyes on this section of the forums and testing the beta for yourself as we'd appreciate your confirmation before full release Quote
