Publisher uses baseline grid even though it is disabled.

Hello everyone,

When I place an image and change the distance below the image frame, the text that follows it "jumps" when I change the distance under the image instead of the distance between the image and the text being continuously changed.

Please take a lock to the attached video.

Can someone help. Thank you in advance.

Rainer

Yes both aren't activated so that the Baselinegrid isn't in usage. Please can you select the picture in your example and then choose the text wrapping settings (1) and make the picture interrupting the textflow (2). If you then in- / decrease the gap between picture and text (3) what happens?

You could also have Baseline Grid enabled in a Text Style, or in the Paragraph panel, I think. Have you checked there, too?

Can you provide a sample .afpub document for us to examine? That's easier than guessing at all the settings that could be involved.

I can't post the document I'm working on, but the behavior in the attached file is the same. If I increas or decrease the gap between the object an the text, the Lines are jumping like byseline grid is activatet. When I encrease the lower gap from 1 to 2 mm, the line after the object jumps down, when I then encrease from 2 to 6 mm nothing happens. At 7 mm the 1st line jumps down to take the place of le line that was line two bevore reaching 7 mm.

Thanks for the example.

So far, I'm not seeing anything to explain that behavior.

This is a known issue with Text Wrap = Jump (see two more threads below) but Serif hasn't acknowledged it as a bug. It doesn't actually have anything to do with baseline grid but with the Jump setting flowing text as if it as set to Square or Tight. IMO it's a bug, the Bottom Distance from Text setting doesn't work as expected with Jump. With Square/Tight, Bottom is supposed to be the minimum distance but with Square/Tight it should be a fixed distance. This is the way it works in most other apps but in Publisher Bottom works as the minimum distance for Jump.

I believe Serif says this is by design because they're using using the same code for Jump as for Square/Tight. For example, using the test doc shared by the OP above, change wrap to Square or Tight and then drag the wrapped shapes bottom size handle slowly downward. You'll see the text jump one line at a time because it has to given the text flow. Then change it back to Jump and you'll see it doing the same thing. If you repeat the test in another app such as Microsoft Word you'll see the way it should work.
