Adas50 Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 HI, after updating to version 2.3 of Affinity Photo the masks no longer work. I've tried using them on all the adjustments and filters, the result is always the same. I attach a short video where I used the level adjustment, I inverted it, the mask was normally created but when I use the brush tool with white color set and 100% flow, nothing happens on the image, while the adjustment should be revealed I think it's a bag for this reason I posted on this forum, if I'm wrong I apologize to the moderators. For more info I work on the Win 11 platform with 16 Giga of Ram, Open GL deactivated, masks.mp4 Quote
walt.farrell Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Do you perhaps have Protect Alpha enabled on the Context Toolbar? For you, it's on the right side, behind the >> icon. NotMyFault Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 The mask is perfectly fine. The brush does not paint in white, there are countless reports and possible causes. select a basic round brush of 32 pixel, check hardness / opacity etc deselect all Choose white from the default white color swatch try again check channels panel (reset channels there) if it still does not work, create pixel layer on top and try if it works there. walt.farrell 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. NotMyFault Posted December 2, 2023 Posted December 2, 2023 Most likely you have an active selection of „nothing“ (e.g. by using shift-I instead of ctrl/cmd-I) which can happen by accident. So deselect all is the first thing to do when brush based tools refuse to work. walt.farrell 1 Quote Mac mini M1 A2348 | MBP M3 Windows 11 - AMD Ryzen 9 5900x - 32 GB RAM - Nvidia GTX 1080 LG34WK950U-W, calibrated to DCI-P3 with LG Calibration Studio / Spider 5 | Dell 27“ 4K iPad Air Gen 5 (2022) A2589 Special interest into procedural texture filter, edit alpha channel, RGB/16 and RGB/32 color formats, stacking, finding root causes for misbehaving files, finding creative solutions for unsolvable tasks, finding bugs in Apps. Staff MEB Posted December 2, 2023 Staff Posted December 2, 2023 Hi @Adas50, Welcome to Affinity Forums Change the Blend Mode (in the context toolbar) from Darken to Normal and it should then work as you'd expect. NotMyFault 1 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software

Thanks MEB, it works. I never changed the blend mode in the context tool bar, it went default after doing the update, it floored me and I thought it was a bug. I will be more careful in the next update. Quote
SolihullRog Posted October 11, 2024 Posted October 11, 2024 I have the same problem but the above solution doesn't work for me. Quote
Staff MEB Posted October 11, 2024 Staff Posted October 11, 2024 Hi @SolihullRog, Welcome to Affinity Forums Can you give us a bit more information about your case please? A screenshot of the app with the Layers panel visible and the tool you are trying to use selected or a video clip showing what you are trying to achieve would help considerably. Thank you.
