Myke Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 I cant remember when I first got Affinity programs, somewhere around 2018/2019? I found that it takes awhile to load to open or to extract updates way back then, but lately it is getting worse. I have to force quit a number of times to open all the programs since it dosent respond after idling 5-10 minutes. Since the new version Im finding it slowing even more down especially if I have my browser open as well. With document im working on it now slowing down on 150mb file as wait for zoom to focus or task finish. It never did this a month ago. Currently updating 2.3 and the less used Photo is not loading, had to force quit twice so far. It is now 10:30pm I been trying to update all three one at a time. Did illustrator first then publisher and been doing since 12pm. My computer is getting old had its last update last year. But as I said this issue been like this since buying, but never so that I have to wait and affecting my browser not responding or any other computer use. I have no problem downloading anything else, which is done in minutes to 10 odd minutes or more depending on on how large files are. Also have 700gb storage available. Am I totally outdated with your programs? MacOS 10.15.7 Catalina Processor: 2.7 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5 Memory: 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics: Intel Iris Pro 1536 MB Quote

I have no idea what is causing your issues but what I can tell you is all the Affinity apps run well on my iMac (specs below in my sig) which runs on Catalina. Each update to 2.3 took about 3-6 minutes to download & less than a minute to initialize & open. I did update & open them one at a time. Dan C Posted December 3, 2023 Posted December 3, 2023 Hi Myke, Looking at your system, it looks like a 2013 iMac? There could be numerous problems you are encountering here. The first concern I would have is that you may be on either a Fusion (Hybrid) drive or even just a plain mechanical hard drive which would be now 10 years old. If your machine is running out of RAM which is quite likely I would say, you will experience a large amount of data transferring from the slow drives and if your hard drive is failing this could exacerbate the issues dramatically. (make sure you have backups of everything!) Could you please test this for me: 1. Close every application on your computer (ensuring there are no white dots under the applications on the dock aside from the finder icon). 2. Restart your machine (if asked do not re-open anything when you reboot). 3. After rebooting, ensure your power is connected if this is a laptop, and launch Affinity straight away and note the time it takes to launch. 4. in the Affinity Settings page, hit Performance and change Intel IRIS to your other graphics card if available and allow the software to restart. See if this improves things at all. Quote
Myke Posted December 4, 2023 Author Posted December 4, 2023 Ok did a big sort out on computer by holding D down while start up, my RAM is ok and Disk utility seems to be better in this section than opening up as an app. Took 9GBs off to my external drive I forgot about. My memory pressure is green (what ever that means in activity monitor). My computer seems better though should did timer on starting affinity apps before I did fixes. But when I opened without any other apps after doing it. App would bounce for roughly 2 minutes and depending on the small start up loading screen of app this is where can get no response. I opened each one individually then closed to do next app. *Designer 3:45min (with browser open it opened 3:25) *Photo 3:30min (with browser open 4:19). *Publisher 3:30min (with browser going 7:19) I closed all apps and restarted computer opening up each affinity app separately unticked hardware acceleration. (pics show after and before settings) *Photo 2:19 restart 1:28 after changes. Clicked photo while doing this post 2:41min *Designer 2:42 restart 0.50sec after changes. Opening designer with browser while doing this began non responding (SBBOD-Swirly beach ball of death) 3:22min *Publisher 2:46 restart after changes 0.14sec. Opening up while doing this post on browser 2:45min with a little bit of SBBOD in small loading screen before layout pops up. well it was better than before, but more concerned on the extract of updates of 30min - 2hrs+ Quote
