Hi everybody,

I've been working on a Publisher 2 file on Mac OSX, and today it suddenly caused the app to crash. Now every time I try to reopen this file, the app crashes. I was copying content from an IDML document when it happened. The app opens other afpub files, and it still opens the IDML file. It's only this one file that causes it to crash.

I've tried reinstalling the app, and I've tried clearing preferences, but it hasn't worked. I'm attaching the file here, in case somebody is able to open it.

If you can, and you know what's wrong, please let me know.

Thanks,

Will

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

Interesting behavior from that file, which I have never seen before. I opened it on Windows using the 2.3 beta of Publisher, and it complained of missing resources, offering choices of Yes, No, or Resource Manager to locate them. I clicked No, and the application hung.

I tried to kill it using Windows Task Manager, and that didn't work, either. Eventually, after I tried to kill it again, and waited awhile, it woke up enough to terminate. While it was hung the last operation that occurred was a call to initialize the WerFault.exe process, so presumably some kind of fault occurred that wasn't being handled properly. It took about 2.5 minutes before the application started terminating. (Serif team: I have the Process Monitor log file if you need it.)

I likewise tried to open the file on macOS and saw the same behaviour as @walt.farrell with regards to Resource Manager but on Mac it crashes instantly. Attempting to 'Add Pages from File' or Place the file also results in an instant crash...

I suspect the file is unfortunately corrupted...

Hi @William McNeice,

Our developers where able to rescue you document and the fixed version can be downloaded from the Dropbox link below, The issue was caused by text frames in the document becoming linked to themselves and they have asked if you can provide more information of your workflow before the document became corrupt

Wow, that's great, thank you!

I can't remember exactly what I was doing when it crashed, but in general I had made a copy of another file, then I was copying text from the IDML file and pasting it without formatting. One of the things I had to do was unlink flowing text frames in order to delete excess pages, and sometimes I would accidentally unlink the wrong one and then click undo.

Where can I find the dropbox link?
