This is a feature that users have been asking for for several years.

Serif why is there no way to turn off the annoying update notification?

Even people who decided to stick with V1 are tormented with an update to V2 notification every time they launch the app.

This approach is not serious.

V1 will not show an 'Update Available' notification regarding V2 - are you able to provide a screenshot showing the notification you're referring to?

Thanks for providing that for me - provided you're on the very latest V1 version this shouldn't be showing at all, hence the download button is not functional.

I've checked here and I'm not seeing the same notification when launching any V1 apps, can you please navigate to Help > About and provide a screenshot of this dialog for me?

Many thanks once again :)

I cleared user settings using CTRL while launching the app. It was worth trying first. That didn't helped.
I reinstaled APub like i said and it seems that this helped. The update notification its not showing up anymore . I don't know what was wrong.

But @Dan C why there is no option in V1 and V2 preferences that will allow us to turn of those update notifications ?

Could the OP's message get erroneously triggered by the updates 10.7 / 10.8 available for mac/iOS?

(… similar to the forum's SerifBot that seems to occasionally be fed with confusing information regarding available 'latest' beta versions for some of its bug fix announcements)

• MacBookPro Retina 15" |  macOS 10.14.6  | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1
• iPad 10.Gen.  |  iOS 18.5.  |  Affinity V2.6

Could be. But I would prefer to have more control over when the application connects to the Internet and checks for available updates and when update notifications are displayed. This is rather standard nowadays.

I'm glad to hear this is no longer showing after a reinstall - thanks for letting me know!

I don't believe the developers have provided any reasoning as to why this option is not available, simply it's not yet been implemented into the Affinity apps. I understand this is logged as a requested improvement request and is something our team may consider adding in a future update :)

Technically this shouldn't be possible, as both Windows & macOS use different URL calls to check for the latest version - and the Windows updater has not been modified since we originally released 1.10.6. Equally, other users are not seeing this prompt, and it has not shown in any of our internal testing, so I don't believe this to be the case.

The likely occurrence was that the local cache on the users machine had retained a previous version number for the Affinity app, and therefore would have 'detected' that 1.10.6 is a higher number than the previously cached version number, and then offered the update. As no update actually exists, the Download option did not function. Performing a reinstall would have cleared that version number cache, meaning the app no longer thinks the users app is 'behind'.

I hope this clears things up!
