waterworks
I can't figure this out. Please help, this should be super easy but I don't find a way. Here's what I'm doing: 1. With the form tool (edit: shape tool), I make this form/path: 2. I turn it 90°, manually Now, I want to fill this form with text, but from the top to the bottom. What naturally happens ist this: HOW can I rotate/newly align the text within its frame to read from top to bottom while perfectly filling it out? I tried it in Designer, Publisher and searched for hours, is there really no way for this super simple task? Thanks for reading!
David in Яuislip
I did this in Publisher V1, hope it's useful waterworks 1 Quote Microsoft Windows 11 Home, Intel i7-1360P 2.20 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Intel Iris Xe Affinity Photo - 24/05/20, Affinity Publisher - 06/12/20, KTM Superduke - 27/09/
MickRose
Hi @waterworks draw 2 overlapping circles of different diameters, then geometry subtract, convert to text frame. I don't know what the "form tool" is. Quote Windows 10 Pro, I5 3.3G PC 16G RAM
waterworks
@MickRose thanks, that's one idea, but a rather difficult one when the form tool lets me draw the exact form I need with one click (and a rotation). It also behaves differently when I would do it your way but I might just try the form tool is the tool that lets you draw several pre-set forms, like, ellipse, circle etc. (Shape tool, sorry) I use it in a different language, just thought it was obvious enough with the pictures and the info, my bad
GarryP
The Shape tools – Rectangle, Star, Crescent, etc. - always draw the shape oriented to the top of the page/document. If you rotate the shape and then add text to it, that text will also be rotated. If the text was always oriented to the top of the page/document then it would be difficult to add text which was oriented to the shape. Staff Dan C Posted November 28, 2023 Staff Share Posted November 28, 2023 Hi @waterworks, Please see the below screen recording showing how to achieve this, by rotating the Nodes of the Quick Shape, rather than the Shape itself - 2023-11-28 13-19-16.mp4 I hope this helps! waterworks
waterworks
@DanC This is AMAZING! Thank you so much! That's it! 🙌 @GarryP What's the point of your comment? I know this and this is why I asked for help changing the direction of the text after rotating the shape. But good for you, now you know it too Dan C

Also, the first way via "Geometry" seems to be entirely possible with keyboard shortcuts. (… there is no menu entry for "Transform Mode", right?) Unfortunately this method no longer works in V2 - as 'Add' in V1 would reset the bounding box. In V2, the bounding box remains as 'rotated' following the 'Add' command. This has been previously raised in the below thread and I believe our team are looking to add an option to permanently reset the bounding box (including any rotation) as a new dedicated command for a future update loukash, thomaso and waterworks 2
