I've been struggling with this issue for a while now, I've tried it on two different machines, and both have the same issue as follows:

I start a new batch job, add some heic files, select save as jpeg into the same location. When I click ok, it goes to start the job, then after a few seconds the program just closes.

I have tried enabling and disabling batch processing.

I have tried changing the save to location.

It doesn't work.

I'm on version 1.10.6.1665

Hi @Nick Webber,

Sorry to hear you're having trouble!

When performing the Batch Job, you should see a checkbox for 'Parallel Processing' in the bottom left of the dialog - can you please try disabling this option then running the batch job again for me and let me know if this changes the behaviour for you?

If not, can you please attach a sample of the HEIC files that are crashing? If you'd like a private upload link for these files, please don't hesitate to ask :)

Apologies, your post mentioned disabling batch processing so I wanted to ensure this was the same option you'd tried - thanks for letting me know and I'm sorry to hear this issue remains!

Please upload your files to the below link for me:

Once uploaded, please reply here to let me know.
I assume that you are not applying any macros or size changes when this crash occurs - simply converting from HEIC to JPEG?

Many thanks for providing these for me!

I've tested this here in both V1 & V2 on Windows and I'm not seeing the same crashing behaviour currently, with the following settings taken from V1:

When batch processing to either the original location, or a new folder in another location, the JPEG files are correctly created for me.

Can you please confirm, are you using Windows or macOS with Affinity V1?
Can you please navigate to Edit > Preferences > Performance (Windows) or Affinity Photo > Preferences > Performance (macOS) and provide a screenshot of your settings here for me?

Many thanks once again!

No problem at all, many thanks for this screenshot!

Please ensure your GPU drivers are fully up to date, directly from Intels website, as outdated drivers can cause unexpected crashing in Affinity.

If this doesn't change the behaviour, can you please attach the latest 2-3 crash reports from Affinity here for me? You can find these using the FAQ steps below -

Thanks for trying that for me and I'm sorry to hear this - I've escalated the issue with our team internally, as I'm unsure why I'm unable to replicate this crash at the moment.

I'll be sure to update you with our findings here ASAP, thanks for your patience and understanding :)

My apologies for the delayed response, your crash reports appear to show this is related to a Colour Profile when converting the images - either one set in Affinity, or potentially your monitors colour profile.

Can you please open Affinity, then navigate to Edit > Preferences > Colour and provide a screenshot of your settings here for me?

Secondly, please open Windows Run (Windows Key + R) then paste the following string and press OK:

colorcpl

In the window that opens, please select your monitor from the dropdown list (if not already selected) and then provide a screenshot of this dialog here for me also. This should look similar to the following:

Many thanks once again :)

Many thanks for providing these for me!

I believe it's the monitor colour profile (14F9) causing this crash during the conversion.

Can you please select this profile, then click Remove. Now select Add and in the list that appears, choose the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 profile, matching my above screenshot.

Now, tick the 'Use my settings for this device' checkbox at the top of this dialog and Restart your PC.

Once restarted, launch the Affinity app and try converting these HEIC files once again. Does this now work as expected for you please? :)

Thank you for checking that, my apologies it has not changed the behaviour.

To help our team further identify the cause of this, can you please try:

  • Open one HEIC image directly, then use File > Export and export the image as a JPEG.

  • Open one HEIC in the Batch Processing dialog, setting the app to convert this to JPEG, into the same location the above file was exported to.

Does this work in both circumstances? Or does the Affinity app crash when exporting/converting the image in one/both of the above scenarios? :)

Hi Dan,
It crashes trying to do the batch process with one single file.

It crashes trying to open one single file from the file open menu.

If I right click the file in explorer and do an open with Affinity, this works and I can successfully export to jpg

Many thanks for confirming that - that's certainly interesting behaviour as I've now tested this across multiple PCs and I'm not seeing the same crash through any of these methods.

At this time, the crashing still appears to be related to the colour conversion via a monitor profile, do you have any additional monitors connected to your PC currently?

Does the app generate a crash report when opening the HEIC image directly in the app? If so, please attach this here for me as it may contain further information for our team.

I'd also like to request something a little less orthodox, can you please download and install a V2 trial from the below link, then let me know if the app continues to crash in the same manner for you?

Thanks for your continued patience and understanding here!

Hi Dan

I don't have any other monitors other than the one built into the laptop.

The app does crash trying to open one of the files, I've attached some of the recent crash reports.

I tried using the V2 trial and this completed the batch process perfectly on many (about 50ish files)
