BlueAstra Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 I've just downloaded and installed Photo 2, Designer 2 and Publisher 2 on W10 Pro. No desktop icons have been installed. How do I recover the icons? Is there a folder and file location? Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 The default installer is based on Windows MSIX technology, which does not create desktop icons. You can delete those versions and instead download the EXE versions, or see this FAQ (but installing the EXE version may be better for other reasons): Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. BlueAstra Posted November 27, 2023 Author Posted November 27, 2023 Thanks for the reply. Why may it be better to download the exe versions, and how do you do that? Quote
walt.farrell Posted November 27, 2023 Posted November 27, 2023 How? From your account at the Affinity Store. Further explained in other FAQ articles, such as: Why use them? Just a guess on my part, but if you're a user who depends on having application icons on the desktop that seems rather old-school, and likely you are doing other things that might depend on older EXE technology. You can stick with the MSIX versions, and find the other issues you'll need to work around, or switch back to EXE and work like you have done in the past. By the way, if you do switch back to EXE, be very careful when you're prompted to update to a new release. You'll be directed to the website to download the new installer, and you must make sure you click on and download the EXE version , not the MSIX version. BlueAstra Posted November 27, 2023 Author Posted November 27, 2023 Thanks, you guessed i'm old school! I've installed the icons as shown in your attachment. I'll stick with the MSIX versions for now and see how it goes. walt.farrell 1 Quote
MackSix Posted December 4, 2023 Posted December 4, 2023 When I installed the 2.3.0 update is made my desktop icons all have a large blue margin with the icon small in the middle. How annoying. 🙂 So I made 3 ico files 512x512 and changed the icons to those. Quote
