Publisher Move Multiple Pages drag & drop

Hello 

How can I move multiple pages in Affinity Publisher? When I mark 2-3 pages it works, however if I mark more pages, it doesn't allow me to shift them inside the document. Do I do something wrong?

What OS and what release of Publisher do you use, @Gianni Becattini?

How many are you trying to move?

Drag and Drop within the Pages panel should work.

I am using the latest beta. The problem, like in the previous versions, is that you can move only a number of pages you can see at the same time in the Pages panel. If You select (for example) 10 pages but only 9 can be seen, you cannot move them.

I found a workaround: widen the Pages panel (more columns) so that you can see all the pages you want to move and the problem is fixed (until you need to move more pages - however you can select "small icons" and so you can fix the most cases).

I have no trouble moving more pages, as shown below. (Well, I need to check why some of the text became garbled. But I had no trouble physically moving the pages.) (Edit: the text becoming garbled is an artifact of using Facing Pages, with some content coming from the Master Page, I think. it does not happen with single pages, so is not relevant to your problem, I think.)

How are you trying to do it? Can you provide a screen recording?

For me, on Windows, the process of selecting/moving was simple:

1. Click the first page in the Pages panel that I want to move.
2. Shift+Click the last page, scrolling if needed to get to it.
3. Drag the pages to where I want to put them.

I am surprised for what you said, I always had this problem since the very first APub I used. Now I am using the latest beta of APub on Mac OS) and I thought ...it had to be so by design.

If I do exactly as you say, simply I cannot move the pages, when they exceed the number of pages shown in the Panel. When I try to drag them, simply nothing happens.

It was always this way by me, almost as described by Nightjar.

Sure. You can see first with just 4 pages: it works.

Then with more page: they don't move at all.

I'm still struggling to recreate this even following the screen recording I'm afraid.

@MikeTO Are you able to provide a set of steps I can follow to ensure I'm doing the correct things?  Are you able to recreate this with a new blank document?

I can provide mine, if it helped, but to me this happens with any document, even with a new one

New File / Add pages (e.g., 20), select more pages, scroll to have part of the selection outside the panel and try to move the selected pages.

If the selection is fully visible, the problem does not arise.

The problem is not new, I thought it was so by design.

FWIW, following the steps provided by @Gianni Becattini on a Mac with Monterey, I'm also able to reproduce the problem just as he explained. Could it be a Mac-only problem?

Try this:

1. Create a new document with more pages than thumbnails will fit in the panel - I created 100 but it's not important. It doesn't matter if it's facing pages or not.
2. Click to select any page in the Pages panel to be the start of the range. It can be page 1 or any other page.
3. Scroll down in the panel and Shift + click to extend the range. The only thing that is important is that you've scrolled far enough that the entire range isn't visible at once. If even part of the first thumbnail is visible then the problem won't occur.
4. Now try to drag the thumbnails in the panel - dragging will deselect them when you release the mouse button.

I can duplicate this with just two spreads but it is a bit different. Select two spreads and then scroll so that the first thumbnail and its label are entirely hidden. Drag a little bit (which will work) and then release. Drag a second time and it won't work.

For some reason, I'm still not able to replicate this however I have spoken with our QA team and they have advised that this issue is fixed in our next update.

However the workaround is simple: just widen the panel, so that having multiple columns and, if required, reduce the icon size.
