Crop a layer

Hi, how to do a simple crop on a layer?
In Publisher it's easy.

What application are you using? What kind of layer?

Hi Walt, affinity photo 2 (see the tag). So a pixel layer I want to crop. I have read about masking the layer, but isn't there a simpler way (similar to the vector crop in publisher)?

Hi @sieaffin,

In Affinity Photo, the Crop Tool is a Canvas Crop and not a specific Layer Crop - which is the behaviour of the Vector Crop Tool in Designer / Publisher.

If you wish to Crop a singular Layer within Affinity Photo, you can use Masks. These can either be Pixel based masks, usually painted with the Paint Brush Tool, or a Vector Layer mask, applied by dragging the Vector shape over the thumbnail of the layer you want to crop.

For example - 

 

Alternatively, you can use File > Edit in Designer/Edit in Publisher from the menu within Affinity Photo to send the document to Designer/Publisher respectively, then use the Vector Crop tool as required.
