I am about to cry over not being able to save my edited photos in a file format other than afphoto, and none of them will upload to the site I am trying to build for e-commerce.  What am I doing wrong, and how do I chose a format that will save to my computer so I can use the files I am editing?  I have a Mac, but am I just stupid?  I just don't know what to do right now with this program, and it seems to have "stolen" all my Pentax files and added .PEF on to the end of them where they were JPEG format before.  I can't get them to save to anything that I can upload or even if I put them on my desktop, they won't move where I want to put them.  Help.

Hi @NancyP and welcome to the forums,

Files with a .PEF extension are Pentax RAW files which suggests you may have photographed your jewellery in RAW which is a good thing as it allows for much greater control over the image than JPEG files...

If you check the Quality Level in the Record Mode on the back of your camera, is it set to RAW or 6M. If the latter then they are JPEG files, otherwise they are RAW .PEF files.

If you want to upload one of the straight out of camera files we will be able to clarify... but as @R C-R mentions, once you have your image in Affinity Photo and you've made any adjustments to it, using the Save or Save As option in the file menu will save the file in the native Affinity Photo .afphoto format.

To export it to a JPEG or PNG file you would use the Export option, again in the File menu where you will find an array of export file formats, though you will only be interested in JPEG or PNG for your e-commerce site and you will want to balance quality with file size for optimal performance on your website...

As a RAW format, the PEF file will open in the "Develop" persona in Affinity Photo which has various controls. You can then also work on them more in the "Photo" persona and export them to JPEG as noted above.

Thank you so much for your suggestions.  I will be trying what you said, and see if I can make that work.  If not, will be back to pick your brains again.

Most digital cameras today will record an image as RAW (PEF/DNG), Jpeg and also RAW(PEF/DNG) + Jpeg, I can't see Pentax being any different to the majority of digital cameras, so you may have both RAW files and Jpeg files. PEF = Pentax Electronic format.

to help you more precisely, let us know the camera model so we can focus on that particular cameras features and settings.
