DebSki Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Hi I'm trying to create a template for a newsletter, with a very specific & limited set of colours. I set up a document palette yesterday, but when I went back, couldn't see it. Thought it had disappeared/i hadn't saved it properly, so set it up again. It was then listed twice. I've gone back into the document today & I can't see the palette anywhere! Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place or have got the wrong end of the stick entirely! In the Swatches panel I have recent colours & under that there's a drop down with colours, greys.... & a load of Pantone colours listed. In the colours tab, there's a drop down with CMYK, RGB.... So, if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be fabulous. I'd also like to know how to delete all other colours from this document palette Thanks Quote
thomaso Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 Can you confirm that your newly created palette has been listed in the separate, top most area of the palettes menu, with a different icon and above all application | system | pantone palettes? – Here a sample of V1: Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
DebSki Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 Hi No What I have is this (sorry very small as when I click snipping tool the drop down in Publisher closes...) Quote
thomaso Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 In this screenshot seems to be no Document Palette created. It would appear above the black horizontal line above "Colours". When you created your custom palette did you first choose from the Swatches Panel's burger menu (top right corner) to Add a Document Palette? DebSki Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 That's what I did. Twice! As I said, when I created the document palette the second time, once I'd finished, it was listed twice, but when I go back in, no sign of it. FYI I created it by typing figures into CMYK & then adding colour using the + button & then right clicking & naming the colour Obviously I can do it a 3rd time & might even do it by creating a load of boxes with the colours, & just clicking add, but it's deeply frustrating! thomaso Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 What does "when I go back in" mean in particular? Does it refer to the current session or rather after closing + reopening this Affinity document? Did you save this Affinity document after creating the new palette? To investigate what's going on it may be sufficient to have a document palette created, without the need for adding swatches. Can you upload a screencast/video demonstrating the procedures of 1.) creation of a document palette + 2.) the following moment of the missing palette? DebSki Posted November 25, 2023 Author Posted November 25, 2023 Turns out, I had to scroll upwards to see it. Doh! Quote
thomaso Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 That's strange because your screenshot shows there is enough screen space to display the entire menu. – But even if there wouldn't be enough space, then the interface should display an according symbol that indicates the eventually hidden menu entries (like the triangle in my sample with the panel at the upper screen edge). <–> Does it still crop the menu if you drag just the Swatches panel to the centre of the screen, not influenced by any other panel? The OP's screenshot shows an upward facing triangle at the right of the list with a scrollbar below it indicating it can be scrolled upward. (The triangle is at the bottom right of the area you enclosed with the yellow dashed rectangle.) DebSki Posted November 26, 2023 Author Posted November 26, 2023 Clearly wasn't paying attention! Kind of expected it to be at the top, which it was, but visible! Every day's a school day, especially when learning new bit of software. Been using MS Publisher which is just hideous, so keen to get to grips with this ASAP. Steep learning curve currently Quote
KarinC Posted November 26, 2023 Posted November 26, 2023 Don't feel bad about that one. I did exactly the same thing. When I open a new document the pallet shows 'grays' as the default. I didn't realize there are more pallets above 'grays'. I kept looking below 'grays' to find the one I made. Quote

(while, with this eyesight complaints about the UI (e.g. font size, contrast) may get relativized 😉 ) 3 hours ago, DebSki said: Been using MS Publisher Different to mac, in Windows this dropdown gets positioned below its parent menu. (which may be an advantage since it's leaving the menu still visible.). – Is the height of such dropdown menus generally limited in Windows, i.e. for all apps, the Explorer or MS Publisher included? Oddly, in your screenshot there is obviously more than enough space to unfold and display all menu entries. (while it seems not to be limited by the height of the Swatches panel but covers the panel underneath partially). It reminds me to earlier threads with complaints about the cropped font menu. Maybe this UI limitation needs a feature request (or bug report?) Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6
