Antony W Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 I'm trying to create a text style which will turn upper case text into title case, ie capitalisation of the first letter of each word. The text I'm using was typed in all caps, but I'd expect the setting I choose in the text style to override that. It doesn't though. I'm assuming the 'Titling' capitalisation option in the Edit Text Style screen would do the same thing as the 'Title Case' setting which you can apply from the 'Text' menu > capitalisation. Perhaps I've misunderstood what titling means, but it certainly doesn't apply Title Case to the text with that style. In short, is there a way to add 'Title Case' to a text style, so that it will override any capitalisation used when the text was typed? Quote
kenmcd Posted November 25, 2023 Posted November 25, 2023 The Typography panel generally is OpenType features. So I assume Titling is to enable that OpenType feature (if the font has it). Basically it replaces the characters with shapes which are better for use in titles. For an example see Adopey Garamond which replaces standard uppercase characters with different uppercase characters. More info on OpenType Titling: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/typography/opentype/spec/features_pt#titl What you want is Title Case. Quote

In short, I'm afraid not. This is not a formatting change (which as such is doable with a text style), it's actually editing text, like if you overtyped it. AFAIK, this can only be done — as you said — with the Text > Capitalisations commands that are under the separation bar. — The commands Small caps and All Caps above this line (like the buttons in Character panel or the Typography options) are only modifying the apparence of text but not its substance, I mean these changes will not be reflected in a Table of Contents, for example. The commands under the line will.) Quote Affinity Suite 2.5 – Monterey 12.7.5 – MacBookPro 14" 2021 M1 Pro 16Go/1To I apologise for any approximations in my English. It is not my mother tongue.
