Hi! Does anyone know the best file format to use when exporting files to be seen on different computers that may not have the same font capability?

I exported a template and added font to it that I had downloaded, but when I placed it on another computer, the software did not have the same fonts available, and went straight to arial/crossed. I have placed an example below using a sample template.

Any ideas of how to fix this? I've been using SVG to export my templates. Thanks!

Note: this example is a jpeg, used to reflect how the original one would look (on right, or below, the second one) versus the ill-formatted one (on left, above, the first one)

To be seen: PDF should be fine.

If you're wanting users to be able to use a template, to modify it for their own work: That will depend on what application you want them to be able to use, but usually they'll need to have your font installed, I think. If you produce your template as a PDF, with the font fully embedded, and they have an application that can Edit PDFs, and can use fonts embedded in the PDF, and the font permissions/licensing allow that, then PDF should still work.

I plan to have them download the template, but I also want to place them to be seen online on my social media first. would pdf still work for that you think?

Just guessing, as I don't do much with social media, but I think you'd want JPG or PNG. SVG (with fonts converted to curves) might also work in some cases.

that's the thing. If I convert svg with curves, should I do it in JPEG first, then SVG? Will the curves readjust if I do that? Before, I would export jpeg to svg, thinking that the fonts would stay the same on a new computer, however it did not. previously, I'd use only jpeg and the font would stay when sharing with friends. I don't want to lose the quality of this font, which is why I'm asking. Thanks for all of your help!

It is not clear what you mean about fonts staying the same or 'stay' (as what?) when exporting from (?) JPEG because JPEG is a raster image (pixel) format that does not support fonts, embedded or otherwise.

You have (and should keep) an Affinity document (.afpub, .afdesign, or .afphoto) with text.

You are free to Export that as a JPG, or Export it as an SVG. If you Export as an SVG, then during Export, you can convert the exported text to curves if you want. If you don't, then the users who want to view the SVG will need to have those fonts installed.

Normally, when I export my vector templates as jpeg, they appear the same on every device (mobile, pc, laptop, etc).

However, whenever I try to switch to svg from jpeg, it does obscure the font. I'll try a new method.

does exporting the text to curves diminish the font quality? my goal is to not have any of the font obscured, as it is for a promotional item.

No. There are no fonts any more, only curves, and so they are not editable as text. But they should match the original fonts in shape.

@ZOE6 Which of the three Affinity applications are you using, Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, or Affinity Publisher?

Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6
Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
