dieterdreist Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Is there a way in Affinity create interpolations between 2 curves? Like the thinner curves in this example: Quote
GarryP Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 For general curves which already exist, no, not currently. For that you would need a Blend function which has been requested many times. Search the forums for blend to get some ‘workarounds’. For specific curves that you are creating from scratch, that might be possible but we would need to know the details. (If you just want to get some curves that look something like your example then it’s possible.) Quote

Many of us are using VectorStyler as a sort of "plugin" for functions still missing in Affinity. The object exchange is relatively easy via copy & paste. Of course, complex non-destructive VS objects will be flattened to plain curves when pasting in Affinity, just like they would if exported to SVG or PDF. VectorStyler is currently 50% off which is a good price. For some special functions, I actually even still prefer Illustrator: CS5 still runs on my old Mac. Works OK when saving as *.ai with PDF stream which then can be opened directly in Affinity. GarryP Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 Carrying on from what I said earlier... One method is to use the Node Tool in Transform Mode but that can be awkward when you want nice results and it can take a lot of time. (I posted a video about it in the forums but couldn’t find it when I looked.) Another method, in Designer only, is to use the Warp Group functionality (Quad warp) which is generally quicker and seems to produce nice results most of the time (a little bit of fiddling may be necessary). See attached image where I have a group of straight line Curve layers (pressure curve added to all to give the ‘tapering’ at the ends), in a Group which has a Gradient Overlay Effect added to it, and that group has a Warp Group (Quad, with added targets) added to that. dominik, loukash and dieterdreist 3 Quote

There are also a few other basic functions like simplify that I miss in Affinity and that are present in Inkscape (which is open source and completely free but not on par in other essential fields like usability and performance though). thomaso Posted November 24, 2023 Posted November 24, 2023 AD -> Node Tool -> Transform Mode enables you to edit several selected nodes of different curves with a common bounding box regarding move, rotate, scale/stretch. This example started with a straight line + 3 nodes added + 6 identical copies of the initial curve and did not get any curve or node modified individually but vertical 'groups' of nodes via Transform Mode only: loukash 1 Quote • MacBookPro Retina 15" | macOS 10.14.6 | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1 • iPad 10.Gen. | iOS 18.5. | Affinity V2.6

dieterdreist Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 yes, it is a cool feature, but you will have to align a lot of points when it becomes more complex than this. Ideally interpolation would also be possible regarding the style (or some of it), e.g. Quote
dieterdreist Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 here's an example where interpolation is without reasonable alternatives Quote
