Hangman Posted November 23, 2023 Posted November 23, 2023 Exporting any image to a JPEG XL file from all three Affinity apps causes the app to become non-responsive for exactly 60 seconds. Exporting the same files to PNG, JPEG, TIFF and WebP takes milliseconds... I know that JPEG XL export times were improved in a previous RC version but there still appears to be an issue exporting to this format from Affinity apps, both Retail and Beta... The file eventually exports but not without 60 seconds of spinning Beachball... Staff NathanC Posted November 24, 2023 Staff Posted November 24, 2023 Hey @Hangman, This is an issue that has previously been logged with regards to JXL, in some cases dependant on the document size/ the device it can cause the app to irrecoverably hang or crash. While re-testing this in the 2.2.1 it was still particularly poor on larger document sizes and I was also encountering crashes in the export dialog while the JXL file size was calculating. I'll update the existing issue to reflect it's still an issue in release and bump it with your report. Quote
Hangman Posted November 24, 2023 Author Posted November 24, 2023 Hey @NathanC, Thanks for the update and for bumping... I believe I made one of the initial reports on this when export times for JXL files were in excess of five minutes or so... They have definitely improved significantly in the 2.2.1 Retails version though in testing again yesterday what I found really odd is that on export to JXL it was locking up the apps for exactly 60 seconds seemingly regardless of size though I only tested this with a 300 dpi, 1,080 px x 1,080 px and a 300 dpi, 4,000 px x 4,000 px file. I don't know if the app lock-up time is significant in any way but certainly strange...
