Designer 2.2.1 - When symbol contains text with inline SVG icons, icons disappear in instances & copies

Recommended Posts

Reproduction steps:

1. Add inline vector icons into the text

2. Turn the text into a symbol

3. Duplicate it (or copy & paste)

Expected result: Instance will contain the icons as well

Actual result: Instances or copies lack the icons. Adding icons to the copied instance will add *an extra* icon back to the original symbol as well (so then the original contains 2 icons, and the instance just one).

Hi @tomaskafka and welcome.

I think it's because you embed the icons in the text layer.

See how it works with my solution.

I am sorry, but I don't quite understand what is being done there - I tried making the two bullets in one line, or copying the symbol and pasting it elsewhere in text, and both broke it terribly.

But the main issue is that I don't want a hacky workaround, I want Affinity to fix their bugs! When I put this inline symbol into a page master in Publisher, the symbol disappears on every newly added page, and the only way to get it back is to go back to master, edit the text frame, cut the symbol, and paste it back again, which will re-add it into every page again.
