bobdobbs Posted November 20, 2023 Posted November 20, 2023 I'm imported a raster image into a pixel layer in Affinity Designer 2. I would now like to cut out parts of it. If I was working in GIMP my workflow would be: * create the shape with the Paths tool * turn the path to a selection * with the selection active, activate the layer I want to cut from * edit->cut What is the equivalent workflow in Affinity Designer 2? And have you checked the Layers panel to verify that you actually have a Pixel layer, and not an Image layer (which you would need to Rasterize)? You will need to be certain that the image is actually a Pixel layer and not an Image layer. If you are uncertain about the difference then duplicate the imported layer and rasterize it. 5 hours ago, bobdobbs said: * create the shape with the Paths tool * turn the path to a selection As you are using Designer instead of Photo you will need to rasterize the Curve you made. Make sure there is a fill to the Curve. In Designer use the Pixel Persona and choose the Flood Select tool on the Rasterized Curve layer, this will select the area of what you have drawn. The Flood Select tool is also known in some applications as the Magic Wand tool. Now select the "Image" layer and your pixel selection will cut or copy or delete the area in the marquee / marching ants selection. In Windows you can switch to the Pixel Persona and CTRL+Click the shape/curve's thumbnail in the Layers panel to make a pixel selection of that shape Does that not work on Macs? Neat, I learned something. It is Command + Click on Mac. No need to rasterize the Curve. Or create a shape with an opaque color fill and set its blend mode to Erase.
