Lost Genre Acrobat Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Hi, Upon re-opening Publisher files, some of the linked assets (Illustrator files) shift in their frames, clipping content (see screen shots). Locking or unlocking the assets has made no difference, and there appears to be no correlation between asset placement method/layer structure and this unwanted clipping behaviour. The Resource Manager links are all showing fine. The Finder preview image of the document looks fine, and the previously exported PDF version also looks fine. Please see screen shot for OS and hardware specs. I need to make text changes to the doc and don't want to re-do areas of the document that have already been finalised and approved by the client! After a very good start with migrating previous client work from .indd to .afpub, this issue has made me very nervous about file integrity and consistency moving forward. Thanks! Quote

On screenshot 2, you've selected "Audignition_1.ai" but Type says "Affinity". That's a bit odd. Is it really an *.ai file? Other than that, hard to tell without having a few example files. Lost Genre Acrobat Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Thanks loukash, I didn't notice that before, but it's definitely an .ai file. The only file format difference between 'Audignition_1' and 'Audignition_2' is the first one has 2 artboards and larger file size. Strangely, looking at the file this morning 'the Audignition_1' asset had corrected itself! This made me wonder if it's a caching issue ...however, there are still .AI assets within the document that are out of position. Quote
Dan C Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Hi @Lost Genre Acrobat, Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to hear you're having trouble! This isn't something I've seen occurring before, therefore I'd like to request a copy of your .afpub file and the specific .AI files in question, in order to investigate this further. Can you please upload these files to the below link for me: https://www.dropbox.com/request/OAObdHSG6FJW3fdhXXEQ Once uploaded, please reply here to let me know. Many thanks in advance! Quote
Lost Genre Acrobat Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Hi Dan, Thanks for that. I've uploaded the afpub and all the linked assets. This is client NDA work, so please control access and remove once investigations are concluded. Many thanks, and hope it helps! Cheers Quote
Dan C Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 No problem at all, thanks for providing that for me! I'm seeing a slightly different issue from the one you've reported - when reopening the document with the .Ai files linked, certain instances are not rendered at all (rather than cropped as shown in your screenshot), until I force a redraw of the canvas, by zooming in/out over the Linked .AI file: 2023-11-16 16-53-42.mp4 I'm getting this logged as a rendering bug with our team now, as it certainly isn't expected behaviour. Out of interest, if you zoom on the canvas in your file, do you find the Picture frames are updated and render correctly? In my testing, I have found this did not occur for me with the .Ai files embedded - although it will increase the size of the .afpub file on disk, you might consider embedding your resources for 'finalised' pages in the meantime. I hope this helps! Quote
Lost Genre Acrobat Posted November 16, 2023 Author Posted November 16, 2023 Thanks Dan! 1 hour ago, Dan C said: Out of interest, if you zoom on the canvas in your file, do you find the Picture frames are updated and render correctly? That is very interesting, I've just tried the test you suggest: I re-opened the file and the .ai's were cropped incorrectly as per original post. The first time I used Cmd +, then used Cmd 0, there was no change, but... When I actually selected the item in the layer stack then zoomed in, then Cmd-0, that item appeared correctly ... but only the item I had selected; another .ai on the same page was still cropped/not rendered. I think maybe your finding is connected to my original issue, and thanks for taking the time to look into it! 1 hour ago, Dan C said: In my testing, I have found this did not occur for me with the .Ai files embedded - although it will increase the size of the .afpub file on disk, you might consider embedding your resources for 'finalised' pages in the meantime. I generally don't like embedding the assets for this work, as some of the technical images are used across multiple documents and are often subject to global revision. As a general point I've mostly found the transition from 'The Other Software' to Publisher to be really smooth; though I still need to work on tidying my layer workflow, as it's a bit different to the old habits/software. Thanks for trying that for me and letting me know - I'll be sure to update our development log with your findings now! Thus far, it appears as though this issue is only a rendering bug within the Affinity app itself, and my exported test documents appear to show the resources as expected. 19 hours ago, Lost Genre Acrobat said: I generally don't like embedding the assets for this work, as some of the technical images are used across multiple documents and are often subject to global revision. I certainly understand, hopefully this should be resolved by our team in a future update, such that you can continue to use Linked resources as required Quote
