Affinity photo 2 iPad load from photos issue

I cannot import any photos from the photos app. I’m on iPad so 17.1.1 and the latest version of affinity photo.

 

I get a null error on every single photo. It used to work but I have not used the app for a while so don’t know when it stopped. 
 

I have attached a screen shot. Same message for every photo.

I rebooted my iPad Pro a couple of times after checking everything was ok and it’s now working again. Not sure exactly why though.
