jackamus Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 I have a photo with an area that is very dark and I want to lighten it using the Levels tool. I used the polygon selection tool to select the area but when I apply Levels it affect the whole image and not just the dark selected area. What am I doing wrong? carl123 Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 At a guess did you add your polygon selection after you added the Levels Adjustment Layer? You need to add the selection first Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. jackamus Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 Hi Carl, No I made the selection first then tried the Levels feature. Quote If voting made any difference it wouldn't be allowed! jackamus Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 Hi Carl, Correction it was the other way round so I went back and deleted the levels layer just leaving the original image layer and then made the selection. I then applied the Levels feature and it worked! Thank you for the advice. One of the things about the manual is that it doesn't give a examples of using tools and features but just what they do. If you mean application Help, it cannot be understood as a "Manual" - i.e. what and how to do. There are completely different instructions and how-to videos for that. Yes I do mean application help but wouldn't it make sense to have some reference or link in the manual on where to find 'How to do'? Quote If voting made any difference it wouldn't be allowed! jackamus Posted November 13, 2023 Author Posted November 13, 2023 That was very useful but how would I know where to find such help? If there was some kind of link in the manual where you first look for this kind of help that would be great. Quote If voting made any difference it wouldn't be allowed! You would search, either within the Help in the application, or the online help, or via a web search targeted to the online help. In this specific case, you are interested in applying adjustments, so you would type adjustment into the search box in Help, and then you do some reading. The 4th hit in the result list is the one you need, for this one, and that's the one most likely given the topic names. It is right in the first topic that deals with Adjustments, so you will have a hard time looking for a clearer and more understandable location of this information.
