Hide system font variations from font list

I've been having this issue since Designer v1 but always ignored it and went on with my business although it really affected my workflow each time I reached out for the font list. I always thought it's something default from MacOS, but today while editing a document in Apple's basic Preview app I noticed how nice and proper the fonts listed in their fonts menu. (see first image).

As for Affinity (Designer v2 now) it shows all possible variations of all of the system fonts I don't even use...(see second image)
How can I get rid of this list? How can I keep the font list tidy? Or at least for the given example (Noto), how can I keep them
in their own drop-down list. Just like Apple's Font Book does. (see image 3)

I just purchased a font bundle from a foundry and it gets tiring using the searchbar everytime I want to try a new font for the first time.
Without all those system fonts and their variations I'd be left with very few fonts in the list which would be super easy to manage.

I agree this is a major nuisance -- the font menu in Publisher is almost unusable with an unbelievable number of variations of Noto Sans in the list, and other mysterious foreign language fonts, which might be useful for those publishing in Thai every day, but is a real pain in the neck for the rest of us. These might be system fonts from Apple, but they're presence is a complete nuisance. I'm deciding whether to buy Publisher and this issue is really annoying.

What macOS version are you using? I believe that since macOS 13 Ventura the list is significantly smaller and not *all* Noto fonts should be visible. It's similar to the last screenshot—just 5 Noto fonts.

If you're using an older macOS version you may be able to hide some of the (supplemental) Noto fonts using a third party font manager. That is not possible anymore on Ventura and later, but in that case the font list is smaller by default.

Thanks for the followup. I'm on Monterey, and there are a hundred or more Noto fonts, and a hundred or more other unwanted fonts as well. This may be addressed in newer OS, but I hesitate to upgrade b/c I also have music software, Logic Pro and various plugins, and they frequently have conflicts with MacOS version upgrades; researching the real compatibility is a significant nuisance, so... 

Anyway, I found a useful solution for fonts with Affinity: 

Affinity Designer has an extra menu next to fonts, in the inspector, which has a few font groupings, and by selecting "English" the extra Noto and non-Noto fonts magically go away. This is great, for me, as I'm only working with English language at present. 

For anyone working with some-but-not-all foreign languages, I found that Apple's Font Book utility lets you create groups of fonts (and it doesn't burden you with the multitude of extra Noto-etc fonts) -- and these groups from Fontbook will appear in Affinity Designer's font grouping dropdown menu!
