Selection tool not working with copy paste

Hi There,

I'm using Affinity photo on a mac. When i select a part of an image it shows up as selected. But when I copy paste that selection it just creates a new layer with the whole image, not the selection. Same when trying to delete the selected part, it deletes the whole image. The layer is selected blue when trying this.

How can i make this work please? Seems like a simple task

nb:

-it does work with painting, it paints only in the selected area. same with erase tool

-it does not work with paint bucket tool - just makes the whole image one color instead of selected area

Please could you try rasterising the image layer you are making your selection from? You can do this by right clicking it in the layers panel and hitting rasterise.
