I created a book in Canva… (before I heard of Affinity Pub… ) The book tells a story with photos and text. Photos will be located in various places on the pages with text above/below/beside the images. I would like to use the files since the fonts, layout and images are what I want and where I want them. I can download the file from Canva (pages, front/back cover…) in .png or .pdf.

I want to get Affinity Publisher. Can I import/copy/drop the files into Affinity Publisher? Will I be able to edit as needed?

No - PNG is a bitmap image without the ability to edit layers and text.
PDF - maybe. Try the 30-day trial version.
