What kind of file is it? You mention PDF, but a double-click would only open a PDF in one of the Affinity apps if you had assigned that app as the default app for PDF which would be unusual.

Apologies an afpub file not PDF

Thanks.

In that case, the beta would only open it when you double-click on it if you've made the beta the default for .afpub

That's also unusual, as normally you'd probably want the retail version to open files by default. But if you've made the beta the default, it seems odd that double-click wouldn't work.

Thanks. In that case I'm not sure what's happening.

You say the file "doesn't open" when you double-click, and that you had the application open.

How was it open before the double-click? Was the application showing on the screen (studio panels visible, menu showing Affinity Publisher 2 Beta)? Or could you see the desktop, but the menu showed Affinity Publisher 2 Beta?

Or had you hidden it so it only showed in the Dock, but it showed as active there?

Do you ever use more than one monitor, and if so are they all attached and turned on? Did you look on them to see if the file opened there?

Actually, it seems like it might be this known issue: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/search/&tags=AF-989

Sorry for not finding that earlier.

Hi @Vinnied

From what I gather, you are saying that double clicking an afpub file from finder does not open the file in Publisher, and you also cannot create new documents. Is that correct? If so then I do not believe this to be related to AF-989.

To help us investigate this, could you provide a screen recording of this issue in action please.

It would help to have a video recorded by macOS (following the Apple Support instructions above), rather than using a handheld camera. It's important to be able to see the entire screen at all times.

But I have no ideas other than the known issue I mentioned already. Perhaps @EmT will have some.

Hi @Vinnied
Thank you for updating us that you can replicate this in the latest build, the developers are aware of this issue and it is being investigated. We cannot give you a time scale on when it will be fixed. However when it is, you will see a comment on this post from @Serif Info Bot advising you it has been fixed and in which build number.

Just to let you no the problem previous is not fixed in 2.3.0 {2139}

As mentioned before, there will be a post from the Serif Info Bot here when the problem is fixed.

If you discover that it's fixed and the Bot hasn't posted, that would be interesting to report :)

The issue "macOS Main Window fails to re-appear when reopening documents via dragging over dock icon or open via double click" (REF: AF-989) has been fixed by the developers in internal build "2.3.0.2150".
This fix should soon be available as a customer beta and is planned for inclusion in the next customer release.
Customer beta builds are announced here and you can participate by following these instructions.
If you still experience this problem once you are using that build version (or later) please reply to this thread including @Serif Info Bot to notify us.
