I know using drop caps in art text is silly but it works if you press Shift+Return to create additional lines. But it's easy to crash.

  1. Create a new document
  2. Choose Art Text and click on the page
  3. Type a few words
  4. Enable Drop Caps
  5. Position the text cursor anywhere in the text object and press Cmd+Right Arrow = crash

Hi @MikeTO,

I know you're going to hate me uttering the immortal words but 'no issues on Monterey', so possibly again a Sonoma-specific problem. Hopefully, others running both Sonoma and other versions of macOS and Windows can test as well and report back...

Doesn't crash for me on Sonoma 14.1 with that recipe, either.

Unless I need a more complex document.

Ah, this is related to Metal. Although I normally work with Metal off I've cleared my user data a few times in the last month while testing issues for others and forgot to turn it back off.

So still a bug but just one more symptom of the general problems with Metal.

All my tests were with Metal enabled... I've just managed to get one crash with it still enabled but I've not been able to replicate it since...

Not seeing this here with Metal on and OS 12.7.1 Publisher 2.2.1

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Most of these Metal crashes seem to be with M1/M2+, not Intel. I used Metal on my old Intel MBP but it's unusable on my M1 Pro.

This is what I see in System information about the GPUs

"  Metal Family: Supported, Metal GPUFamily macOS 2"

I do know that before I upgraded to OS 12 it was a different... 'flavour' of Metal on my Mac. Before upgrading Blender couldn't utilize my GPUs, now it can. So is there a newer version of Metal for those chips?

Hi MikeTO,

We we're initially unable to recreate this issue, metal enabled or disabled.

It seems this is related to your custom shortcuts file which does let us recreate it.

Ah, that makes sense. Yes, I use the Apple shortcuts for text input instead of Serif ones.

You don't need anything else from me for this one, right?

Thank you
