Pressing Shift+X to swap the fill and stroke of multiple selected objects with DIFFERENT strokes and no fill, sets all the objects' strokes to the same color. I also tried it with turning on "Transform Objects Separately" from context toolbar (Select tool) and no dice.

Doesn't look like a bug to me, let alone new behavior in the 2.3 beta.
That's what it always did when performing "Swap Line And Fill" so I'd assume it's "by design".

Note that the round Fill/Stroke well in the Tool and Color panels can only display one color each, either from the object you've selected first, or from the object you option-click while having multiple objects selected. By swapping these two colors while having multiple objects selected via the rounded arrow symbol it seems only logical that those two colors are being applied to selection uniformly. Shift-X is only a shortcut to this rounded arrow symbol.

So what it would need is a different global command that would swap lines and fills regardless the actual selected colors.

@loukash If so, perhaps we need a menu command Swap Fill and Stroke, with shortcut Shift + X, and the arrow on the color palette can be a shortcut for that commandto swap the fill and stroke. In any case, the feature ought to function with one's selection, whether it's one or multiple items. As it stands it feels half-baked and leaves desired functionality on the table...

That's what I meant. But it should not "hijack" the existing command/shortcut.

Actually it does exactly what it says "on the box", i.e. on those round wells.

For what it's worth though…
I just check my "antique" Illustrator CS5:

  • with one object selected, shift-X or clicking the round arrow will swap
  • with multiple objects selected, the color wells will display "???" and shift-X or the arrow will do nothing

So AI also only does what it says "on the box".

I also checked VectorStyler:

  • when clicking the arrow, VS behaves exactly the same as Affinity
  • when using shift-X, VS swaps each object individually

So VS does "half-way" what you're asking for.
(What's a bit confusing though: the tooltip over the arrow that says "Swap fill and outline styles (shift-X)". I would have then expected that shift-X should do the same as clicking the arrow, since the latter might be actually what I would have wanted.)

So if you have VS, you can copy vector objects from Affinity, batch-swap in VS, copy back.

I disagree, the functionality breaks down with multiple items selected, hence this post. Thanks for the workarounds, those are good ideas.

Frankly, coming from Illustrator, I'm already happy that Affinity does anything at all on multi-selection, unlike the old Illustrator… ;)
