Hi,

I stumbled upon something unexpected and want to check if anyone has a solution for it.

I have a Designer V2 file that I'm trying to export to PDF. I have 10 artboards but only want to export 5 of them to PDF. The file is configured with a 3 mm bleed for all the artboards.

When I select the 5 artboards and try to export by using either "selection only" or "selection area" the option to export including bleed is unavailable. If I try to export just 1 artboard the "include bleed" option is available. As is if I try and export the all the artboards.

Is there a way to export just some artboards with bleed?

Thanks for the help.

In the Export persona > Slices panel you may choose artboards for export selectively:
(in V1 it unfortunately appears you can't export multiple artboards into 1 common PDF this way but would need to merge them after export / can't tell about V2)

Hi,

Thanks for the fast reply.

I never used the export persona. I read about that.

In the meanwhile if you could help me: for some reason not all my artboards appear in the slices panel. Incidentally the ones I want to export do not appear. Is there an option I should have selected?

I send an Screenshot of my designer. The bigger artboards don't appear in the slices.

Thanks

The Slices panel in your screenshot has a scroll bar, indicating there are more artboards below the ones shown. Are you sure the missing ones are not just farther down the list so you would have to scroll to see them?

Also, there are a few yellow warning triangles next to some of the artboards. If you hover the pointer over each of them it should pop up a notice about what the warning is about.

Hi,

No, they were not hidden below in the scroll. In fact I deleted the unnecessary artboards for clarity.

The warning triangles were related to some artboards having the same name.

In the export persona, slices, I now only have one item.

In the normal view they are independent artboards but in the slices panel they don't appear separate. As far as I know I didn't do anything different between these artboards and the ones I deleted that did show in the export persona.

OK. But in the first screenshot something was below what was visible because the scroll bar indicated you could scroll down to see other items. Any Idea what they might have been?

Also, in the shot with the Layers export panel visible, it looks like there are more (artboard?) layers below what it shows, again because of the scroll bar. What else is there?

This file had a lot of artboards so in the first screenshot there was the scroll bar.

In my last reply I deleted the unused artboards so that only the artboards I want appeared. There are 8 artboards and some text. In the last screenshot there are only 7 artboards in the list so the 8th is hidden. For the sake of understanding what is happening I deleted more artboards so that in the layers panel there is no scroll bar.

However the problem illustrated in the screenshot of my last post remains. I now have 6 artboards in the layers menu. One appears in the slices but the others don't. I don't understand why this artboard appears and the others don't appear in the slices menu.

I notice that in the layers menu there is a symbol on the left of the artboard that does appear in the slices but I don't understand how it appeared as I don't think I did anything different from one artboard to the other....except maybe one was the original artboard when I created the file (and maybe I copied the other ones that appeared in the slices from this one) and the other ones were created from scratch. Could that be it?

Is there any option in the artboard to make it "appear" in the slices menu?

Thank you

It looks like you only have a slice for one of the artboards. They are not created automatically so you need to do that yourself. One way is to use the Layers panel & its "Create Slice" option.

EDIT: Ha! I beat @Old Bruce to it by a few seconds. 😆

Once you have selected the Layers you want as slices just hit the Create Slice button.

Thank you for both your help.

Now I understand what to do.

Just don't understand why some of the artboards had slices automatically created and others not but its just a curiosity as I now know how to solve it.

Thank you.

One final question. This all started with me not being able to make a single PDF file with the 5 artboards and their bleed when I selected the option "selection area" or "selection only". In the slices I see how I can do it for each artboards but I cannot find how I can make for the 5 artboards with their bleed.

Is it possible to do it with the bleed?

Thank you
