lixie Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Why the "Move Data Entry" (...ps weird name) is not found in any menu? I just found out about this feature by complete accident by stumbling upon it in Spotlight (https://affinityspotlight.com/article/cool-rotations-and-transforms-in-affinity-22/). This is basically a transform feature so why make this a secret feature? This should be in the Layer > Transform menu (I'd think). bures 1 Quote MacBook Pro 2015 | macOS Monterey 12.7.6 | Affinity Suite 2.5.5
walt.farrell Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 Quick Grid is not in a menu either, as far as I know. I guess they expect users to read the What's New section of the website (which I think the initial dialog in the application points to) or in the Help introduction. I'm not sure that Layer > Transform is the right place for them, but it does sort of make sense for Move Data Entry (but not for Quick Grid). walt.farrell Posted October 30, 2023 Posted October 30, 2023 There are additional improvements to Move Data Entry coming in 2.3, and currently being discussed/tested in the beta, by the way: Quote -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. lixie Posted October 31, 2023 Author Posted October 31, 2023 Thanks, I did not know about qick grid either. I usually just explore the menus for functionality. Who has time to read all the time, LOL? Move Data Entry has a Ui (dialog box) so it should be in the menu. Most graphics app has all these functionalities inside a Transform dialog. “Move Data Entry” is such a confusing name. It sounds like a database function. I get Affinity is trying to innovative, but at least innovate right. Quote MacBook Pro 2015 | macOS Monterey 12.7.6 | Affinity Suite 2.5.5
fde101 Posted October 31, 2023 Posted October 31, 2023 As this is specific to certain tools I am wondering if a button on the context toolbar might be more appropriate? Either way I agree that a feature like this needs to be exposed in more ways than just a keyboard shortcut. It should either be in a menu or have a button somewhere that brings it up. Affinityconfusesme Posted January 24, 2024 Posted January 24, 2024 I think both this and object creation data entry should be in the right click menu.
