I'm creating a reference book and using a drop cap for the first letter of the first paragraph of new chapters. Usually, the word with the drop cap should have the letters following the drop cap set in either small caps or caps. I would have thought the 'initial words' section in the paragraph style creation tool would do this - but it's not working. I migrated to Affinity Publisherfrom dear old Serif Page Plus 9 and I'm very disappointed to find out the initial word facility doesn't work. Unless I'm missing something . . .? Anybody got an answer?

Welcome to the Serif Affinity forums.

For that set of requirements, you can combine the Drop Caps and Initial Words section of a new Paragraph Text Style, and a separate new Character Text Style to give you the All Caps. For example:

  1. A new Paragraph Text Style named Initial with:

    and

    and
  2. A new Character Text Style named Initial word with:

Or, you could create the new Character Text Style but make appropriate changes to the built-in Initial Words Paragraph Text Style to get the Drop Caps and to add the Text Style for the Initial Words section of the definition.

If you did something other than my suggestion, can you explain what you found that worked for you? My approach worked for me.
