Image Colorspace HELP!

I'm thinking there is a simple fix but it's escaping me.

I have a jpg photo (A) from an iPhone, I did some clone brushing on, then exported it as a jpg (B).  When I import the new (B) jpg into my iPhone, the sky and clouds lost all their brightness and look washed out. Compared to the (A) version which has the clouds popping with super high whites.

I should add I didn't do any work to the clouds, I was cloning beauty fixes to a person.

I've exported the jpg several times using multiple profiles including the original imbedded profile as well as srgb.  The images also are the same size 2,879mb.  So I don't think I'm compressing it any further.

Working in Affinity the images look identical.

Alas, every export I've done looks washed out. 

Any advice?  I'm working off a laptop and my working colorspace is only RGB.  So I guess I wouldn't know if I've converted the original jpg upon import, but I'm hoping there's a checkbox somewhere I can flag to keep the original colorspace throughout the process.

Hi @JohnKAR,

Welcome to the Affinity Forums & sorry to hear you're having trouble!

Can you please open the original iPhone image within Affinity Photo, then select the Pan (Hand) Tool. On the Context Toolbar above the canvas you should here see the Colour Space and ICC Profile used for the document. (ie RGB/8, sRGB IEC61966-2.1)

Can you please confirm the information that is provided here for this image?

When viewing the exported image on your iPhone, are you simply using the 'Photos' app to view this, or a different app please?

It says RBG/8 on the original file and my aphoto project as well.

Great follow up question, I only see the difference viewing them in the Photos app on the phone.  In email, they look identical.  When I screen capture on the iPhone of the original (from Photos) it also captures a washed out version.  So it appears to be a Photo's viewing issue.

Thanks for confirming that for me - if this is only occurring when viewing the image in Apple Photos, it may be due to the Colour Profile that you're using within Affinity, or your Windows colour profile applied to your PC monitor.

I understand you are using RGB/8, but which Colour Profile appears in the context toolbar for this document please?

Here you go.  They are both display P3 but the camera data is different.  I think I started my project with a different saved export of the image vs the original image.  Classic 'pebkac' Garbage In/Garbage Out.  However, I did just try a test starting with the original, copied/pasted some fix layers into this the new project, saved from the new project, using these sRGB settings. (as well as leaving the profile blank) 

All looking the same washed out view in 'Photos'

To clarify, the new project is built starting with the iPhone 12 mini Camera IMG_0661.jpg

Thanks for verifying that - as you are editing using the P3 Colour Profile and then exporting to the sRGB Colour Profile, this may cause certain tones to appear differently in the exported image, especially when viewing on a 'wider colour gamut' screen such as your iPhone.

If you export the image using the same P3 Colour Profile that is in use when editing, does the image appear as expected through Photos on your iPhone?

I just did export using P3 off the original.  Still washed out viewing on Photos.  At this point it's more of a nuisance, everyone is happy with the picture and they've printed it.  

Only in Photos would anyone notice a difference.
