It's definitely .afpub~backup~ and not .afpub~lock~ ?

I haven't seen anything but the lock files, so far. Can you tell what you're doing just before the backup file is created?

It is definitely a .afpub~backup~ file. And I have not been able to pinpoint a reason, as it is random. Sometime when I minimize the file it happens, but not consistently.

My wife and I are both using versions 2.2.1 on a network, working with a set of 20 publisher files (not at the same time). I can edit 4 or 5 different files, save and close, and it might make a backup file on one of them (not all). Same for her. After a couple of hours of work, we have a backup file for each of the set of 20. We are using two different paid versions of Publisher 2.2.1.

Interesting.

Are the files on some kind of network drive (which?), or local to your machines?

The files are on a separate MacOS computer on a network (wifi), and are not local to the two Macs we are running Publisher on. We haven't had this issue until updating to 2.2.1 this morning.

We need more information from Serif as to what these ~backup~ files are.

E.g.

When they are created? (network only drives or all drives?)
How they work?

The ~backup~ files are created when our files go through a streamlining process, removing redundant data that's no longer needed. If the process is successful the files should be deleted, if not it replaces the current .af file and then is deleted.

@Stephen Babb Can you see the ~backup~ files if you browse to the save location you're opening the files from using Finder? If so can you take a screenshot for me and if possible a screen recording of your workflow.

Could you also check to see if the save location has any permission restrictions, just in case.
