DiWi Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Unfortunately .tiff photos can't be opened in photo and publisher. In the picture an affinity file is assumed. But this isn't correct. Quote
MikeTO Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 Hi, I can't duplicate this problem on macOS with any of my TIFF files. Could you share one of you TIFF files here for testing? footeg Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 I have tried opening files with both .tif & .tiff extensions in this beta version. Both opened successfully. I don't speak German but I think the final sentence says "Document contains embedded Affinity data, this however cannot be opened". Is this correct? As Mike says it would be helpful if you could share the saar.tif file. If it helps you could try opening the attached file. _1012893_DxO.tiff Quote
footeg Posted October 25, 2023 Posted October 25, 2023 I forgot to say I am using Windows 11 on a Lenovo laptop. Quote

A TIFF file can contain an Affinity file, if you export with the option to "Include Affinity Layers", and the message is saying that the TIFF file contains such Affinity layers but there's a problem. As Mike said, it would help to have a sample file with this problem. DiWi Posted October 26, 2023 Author Posted October 26, 2023 I am working with windows 10 and the .tiff file is given by an extern artist. I don't think she is working with affinity products. Quote

footeg Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 I tried opening Diwi's original image in various editors. Affinity gave the same error message as reported. I was able to open it in DxO Photolab 6, ACDSee Photo Studio & Luminar Neo & export them from each application as tiff files. All three can exports be opened in Affinity Photo. I have attached copies of the exported files. Finally I tried Topaz Photo AI. The image opened as a black image but the software went through the corrections & I was able to export the completed image. The thumbnail shows the correct image & it is able to be opened in all the applications except Affinity Photo. It opens but as a completely blank image! I've also attached the exported image from Topaz. Not sure if any of this helps but it was an interesting exercise. walt.farrell Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 @DiWi: It would be useful to ask the artist what application created the file. footeg Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 It would indeed Walt. As you can see from this screenshot ACDSee identifies the original file as a bitmap despite the tiff extension. walt.farrell 1 Quote
footeg Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 Interestingly, if you rename Diwi's original file with a bmp extension it opens in Affinity with no error message but as a completely blank image. Quote
DiWi Posted October 26, 2023 Author Posted October 26, 2023 Thank you all. Unfortunatly the artist in on holiday. I ask her in the middle of next week. Inspired by your answers I found the following solution as work around: I loaded the .tif in gimp and exported it then as .tif again. After that Affinity works fine with the picture. Obscured 1 Quote
footeg Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 I'm glad you were able to get it sorted. It appears that using any application to convert the original results in an editable file. Quote
MikeTO Posted October 26, 2023 Posted October 26, 2023 There are two issues here. First, this is a BMP file and not a TIFF and the person who provided it added the wrong file extension. The header bits identify it as BMP. Second, once renamed it will open as blank when opened in Affinity 2 but it will open correctly in Affinity 1. This is a known bug.
