michcm Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 I'm a beginner to graphic design on affinity and had a question- I had someone send me a PDF of a design (packaging design) they made on affinity. If I import that PDF into affinity, would I be able to edit it? For example would all the graphics and logos be separated from each other, and would I be able to change their shapes/play around with color of individual elements, adjust sizing, etc.? Quote

"If I import that PDF" don't import but use File > Open... Also... If you have someone working with the Affinity applications just ask for the Affinity document. It doesn't matter if it is a Publisher or Photo document. You will be able to open that with Affinity Designer. One of the strengths of the three applications is their ability to open all three document types, actually just one type with three different extensions. Quote Mac Pro (Late 2013) Mac OS 12.7.6 Affinity Designer 2.6.0 | Affinity Photo 2.6.0 | Affinity Publisher 2.6.0 | Beta versions as they appear. I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.
walt.farrell Posted October 22, 2023 Posted October 22, 2023 Note, though, that if text is involved, you will need to have the proper (matching) fonts installed on your system. The Affinity applications cannot use fonts embedded in the PDF file. Although editing the pdf file is possible, it is definitely better to use the affinity file directly. Export and import/open may not preserve layer hierarchy and all their adjustments (fx, live filter, adjustments) as in the source file. For some reason she seems really reluctant to send it as an affinity document. There's been a bit of a language barrier but I've asked for the affinity document and she just skirts around it, so I'm hoping that I'd still be able to do some editing with a pdf Quote

Got it- for some reason she seems really hesitant on sharing the direct affinity file, but if it's better I'll try to push her to. Quote
a simpler life Posted April 30, 2024 Posted April 30, 2024 Newby question here. I have an old QXP file I want to edit. I understand now that isn't possible, however I do have the PDF version. My question is how can I save/ convert this so all the text moves as one (through six pages) when editing the text? Currently only each line can be edited and nothing else moves. Quote

There are two you should probably enable: Favor editable text; and Group lines of text. Even after doing that, the text on each page will be separate. But if you're using Publisher (not Designer or Photo) you should have Text Frames that you can link together by clicking on the lower-right linking triangle on one page, then clicking on the text frame on the next page.
