roman116 Posted October 20, 2023 Posted October 20, 2023 Hello everyone, I am still running V1 on my old Win10 22H2 PC, based on intel i5 3470 3,2GHz and Saphire Radeon RX 550 4G RAM with AMD Adrenaline 23.Q3.1. According to this specification https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feature_levels_in_Direct3D#Direct3D_12 this GPU is on the list supporting Direct3D12. But, this GPU simply is not running at all. When I switch OpenCL on, and then run benchmark test from application Affinity does recognize connected GPU at least. But it does not mean that GPU is working when application is running. I am quite on the budget, so I cannot afford to buy new hardware just to test if it is running or not. When I am reading forums here, new, latest version might be solution, someone posted that drivers problems were fixed after all. But maybe also not, as some people posted that they are going to return to V1. In the past, there was Affinity Photo trial available, but for latest V2 not anymore, so I cannot make any test of new version either. Any idea? Maybe some from the stuff could assist too? Quote
Ron P. Posted October 21, 2023 Posted October 21, 2023 Wow, 😮 Serif has the link for the free trial hidden, but it's there. You need to click on a Buy Now, look below the Universal License box. But yes it's a bit hidden and could be more prominent to attract potentially new customers. Yep, sure is. I dunno why, but I thought that was just an image/screenshot, and didn't have the links. 😏 Obscured 1 Quote Affinity Photo 2.5..; Affinity Designer 2.5..; Affinity Publisher 2.5..; Affinity2 Beta versions. roman116 Posted October 22, 2023 Author Posted October 22, 2023 So, I downloaded trial and did a short test so far. Simply to find if it works or not. When I switch hardware acceleration on, that OpenCL, my Radeon RX 550 works. I have to admit, that both, GPU as well as CPU pretty often running at 100 % performance. But not always. When the process is not so intensive, the CPU power drops to half for example, but the GPU still runing at full power. What's strange is that the GPU still run at full speed even when I'm not doing anything. The image is saved, closed, just the program running. Processor at zero, but GPU still running at 100 percent. Until I close the program too. Then the performance crashes even on the graphics. Shortly, when I run program, both (CPU and GPU) are at 0 of performance. When I start doing something, the processor performance fluctuates as needed, but the graphics go up to 100 percent and stay there until I close the program. Clearly, not everything is as it should be. I have to say that I haven't looked into what all is new here, I just focused on the GPU issue. But I have to say that version 2 I've tried now seems faster than version 1. Even on my old hardware. So I still have to look around to see what all is new here compared to version 1.0. Lately I've needed to mask characters from the background a lot, and especially hair masking, I just have a problem with that. I need to make it faster and more accurate, just a better result. I'd also like to take a look at the other affinity program, Designer. In Illustrator I used to use the "mash" tool to create a blend or blur effect without applying a function to the object, but I guess I just can't do it here. I need the resulting image, in SVG or EPS format, to be able to be opened and edited in a lower version of Illustrator without any problems. Thx guys for the assistance. Quote
