Hello everyone,

I have noticed that AP(ver 2) saves very large jpgs . As an example : I open a jpg which is originally 11,4 MB and without any manipulation to it save it. The file size is 15,9 now.

If any ajustments are done to the photo the size grows to 18, 19 , 22 MB .

I do not understand it :( . The issue makes me to compress the file and reduce resolution :(

Does any one knows why is it so and how to avoid it ?

Regards

Leszek

Jpeg compression algorithms and parameters can vary between vendors/apps. affinity is known for creating larger files vs. other apps even when using same jpeg quality parameter.

Adjustments like sharpening will create more details, and this always leads to lower compression.

The growth is explainable, not exactly a bug.

I use iPad screenshots and videos even in the Desktop section of the forum when I expect no relevant difference.

It's possible that this size increase is due to metadata being exported with the JPEG from Affinity, which may not be included with the original image. The same is true for the Colour Profile, which may not be embedded in the imported image.

I'd recommend unticking the relevant options for embedding metadata and colour profiles when exporting your images in order to maintain a smaller file size - though do please note that the above information is still correct and image sizes are bound to change based on the composition of the image, the export compression & algorithms used, etc, all of which is expected behaviour and not a bug.

I hope this clears things up :)

At one time, and possibly still now, when you Open a JPG and Save it the Affinity applications were using 100% Quality. This will cause a size increase if the original JPG was saved with a lower Quality setting.

The actual Quality used is not saved with a JPG, and can only be estimated by later applications. So Affinity chooses to use 100%, I believe.
