Hello everyone,

I am working on a document in Affinity Publisher v1.10.6, and the leading has been giving me issues. The problem is that I don't know how to adjust the leading of lines intra-paragraph. By adjusting the leading settings in Characters, I seem to only be able to adjust the lines on an inter-paragraph level.

Earlier in the creation of this document, I remember that I could adjust a global leading setting in the top bar, and that did affect the intra-paragraph spacing. However, it seems to do nothing at all now. I have come to understand from reading the forum posts here that, once I adjusted the leading using the Characters tab instead of the Paragraph tab, it has activated a Leading Override which apparently has deactivated the global Leading parameter in the top bar. I committed a newbie mistake, I know, but is there a way to fix this?

I have read that there is supposed to be a Leading Override toggle button somewhere, but I haven't been able to find it. Barring that, is there a way for me to undo the Characters-tab leading settings? If not, is there a way for me to set the intra-paragraph spacing using the Characters tab or similar?

Thank you for your help.

It isn't a button. It is a field in the Character panel.

I would select all my text and set to [Auto] the Leading override field in the Characters panel.

Good practice for leading is:

  1. Not to use the Character panel (the Leading override therein is only for special use cases, but should never be changed in general. — Actually, none of the options in the Position and transform section…)
  2. Use instead the Paragraph panel > Spacing > Leading (or Paragraph leading in the contextual toolbar).

(There is also the baseline grid function that can interfere with leading. It's worth looking at what it does before using it…)
