David Brear Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 I couldn't see why the first word of the first line in a text box was inset - I had nothing set that way. I found https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/105778-text-indenting-first-line-automatically/ and there someone suggested that, even if Paragraph>Spacing>First line indent was set to 0.0 cm, re-entering it had cured the problem. Initially I entered 0.0 and it showed 0.64 but repeating 0.0 did cure it. I have other text boxes which I Duplicated and they don't show the problem. I have, though, been messing about with Bulleted List, which I've still not been able to get to work properly (it misses out the first line, or the whole page indents, etc) so it's possible there's some link. This must be a bug. Quote
walt.farrell Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 Without screenshots and (ideally) a sample Affinity document that shows the problem, it's unlikely that anyone will be able to help. David Brear Posted October 15, 2023 Author Posted October 15, 2023 Hi Walt, thanks for commenting. It was more a case of advising people how this might be cured. All screenshots would show is what I've described: an inset first line, and Paragraph>Spacing>First line indent set to 0.0 cm. Cheers! Quote
walt.farrell Posted October 15, 2023 Posted October 15, 2023 If you can reproduce the problem in a sample document, it would be useful to provide that. There may be something happening you haven't thought of, that is still correct. David Brear Posted October 15, 2023 Author Posted October 15, 2023 I have had it happen before, but only in a totally random way. I'll bear it in mind. walt.farrell 1 Quote
David Brear Posted October 16, 2023 Author Posted October 16, 2023 Having said which, I tried to open a text frame again yesterday afternoon, and it happened! And it happened again when I drew one off-page. It seemed to be related to the font I was using - opening a frame using Arial - no problem. Palatino - same old annoyance. This is the font I've been using for months to do this publication, mostly without problems. But today - no problem! File attached, pages 39 and 40. RAM at the moment 65% but I've tried clearing it in the past to see if that was the problem. Briefing13.afpub Quote
Old Bruce Posted October 16, 2023 Posted October 16, 2023 Not sure how you managed it but you have a negative Left Indent. This will show as a 0 (zero) cm offset and (somehow) translate into a first line indent of the absolute value. I would suggest reseting your default text styles [No Style] to some sane values and saving them as the defaults. Weird stuff like this comes from lord knows where with Copy + Paste and Placing files with formatting. David Brear Posted October 16, 2023 Author Posted October 16, 2023 Well, thank you very much! But why is it all OK today??! Quote

The little + (plus sign) means the items which follow are overriding the values set in the Paragraph Style or are adding them to the style.
