jmliss Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 (edited) Enhance the save option to cause Time Machine to store version numbers. This would be helpful for the entire suite. All too often, for example, Publisher crashes during a save and I am left with a corrupted file. I usually save to a new file name, but the revert option would mitigate my concerns. Finally, Pixelmator Pro supports this feature - Edited October 13, 2023 by jmliss Added comment about Pixelmator Pro PaoloT and Oufti 2 Quote
jmliss Posted March 27, 2024 Author Posted March 27, 2024 I'm sad that this request never got a response. Publisher is still fragile. The other day I lost hours of work as publisher would not successfully open a saved file. It kept crashing. Even after a reboot. I had to revert to an older Time Machine version, but fortunately I had an exported PDF that I was able to use to restore text. Makes no sense why the suite of tools does not leverage a wonderful Apple feature. Is Apple preventing non Apple apps to use this ? Gripsholm Lion 1 Quote
Oufti Posted March 27, 2024 Posted March 27, 2024 For those who may be don't know what you are asking for, this Apple versioning system is explained here : https://eclecticlight.co/2021/09/04/explainer-the-macos-versioning-system/ I regret too that Affinity doesn't adopt this great technology. I'll just add that on Windows it's entirely a matter of OS settings, so Affinity has nothing to do with it. Simply, if you want to use it, set it up in the OS. https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-perform-a-backup-using-file-history-in/d269ab57-69e9-4467-9d06-3f13631e47d4 Alfred 1 Quote Affinity Store (MSI/EXE): Affinity Suite (ADe, APh, APu) 2.5.7.2948 (Retail) Dell OptiPlex 7060, i5-8500 3.00 GHz, 16 GB, Intel UHD Graphics 630, Dell P2417H 1920 x 1080, Windows 11 Pro, Version 24H2, Build 26100.2605. Oufti Posted March 28, 2024 Posted March 28, 2024 On Mac, beside TimeMachine which is a system-wide functionality, you can have a command "Revert to" in the File menu (for applications that use this Apple API), with nothing to activate or customize, and it lets you revert back to (or browse, edit and copy, a bit like in the History panel of Affinity) any version you saved (cmd-S) recently or, at least one a day and for very ancient ones a weekly selection. I would love to have that in Affinity too, even if I use Time Machine.
