Question about batch exporting and slices

Recommended Posts

I am trying to export all the layers in a project I received from somewhere else. It has alot of layers, contained in 1 sort of a group..
Whenever I try to do the export from the export persona, I only get 1 file that has everything on the project.
The group has a hashtag icon on it too, if that helps with anything. I am also able to use the group option on it, so I guess it's not actually a group by AD2 standards.

It does help, most likely that is the Artboard icon in the Layers panel.

On to the export layers problem.

You have to select the layers in the Export Persona in Designer. Then you hit the little Make Slices button and you'll get the layers as slices. Note that if I had named the layers then those newly made slices would take on those names in the Slices panel instead of the generic Slice1, Slice2, etc. Further note that I could have excluded the Groups, or I can delete them now from the Slices panel.

See how the Layers panel has only the one Slice icon in the Before shot then it has all the layers with a Slice icon in the After shot.

I have never mastered color management, period, so I cannot help with that.

Apologies for replying back to this topic so late (way too busy for my own good)

I seem to now atleast understand what I need to do.
My Artboard has many layers in it, some of them are in groups, and some are not. I can't select all the layers in a group, except manually, clicking on each one separately, and if I click the group itself, the layers inside that group get "unselected"..
Same goes for the Artboard. If I select the Artboard, everything inside it is no longer selected, and if I make a Slice of it, then export it, I just get one big png, instead of everything separately inside the Artboard.
This png does of course include everything that's going on inside the Artboard, but I need everything as separate objects to import  to another program: Unity

I probably should have included the Unity part, but that did not cross me until later today, sorry about that.
Also to add to this: There are MANY layers.. I can't just click everything separately, it would probably take an entire day, and I know that is not the right way to do this.

I simply use the Export Persona's Layer panel and choose Select > Select All from the menu. Or, as I am on a Mac I would use the keyboard shortcut Command + A. Or I would select one layer and then scroll to wherever and Shift + Click on a different layer, this will select all the layers between the first selected one and the second Shift + Click.

If I expand all the layers whilst in the Designer Persona (where we do all / most of our drawing work) then when I am in the Export Persona I have all the layers and groups expanded and can just Select All. There is a context menu command for Expanding groups. In the Layers panel select all and then Right Click (or Control + Click) on the selection and choose Expand Selection from the context menu, down near the bottom.

I managed export what I assume to be all layers, but ran into another problem;
Most of the slices are black rectangles, and some slices only have a portion of an object shown.

There could be dozens of reasons for these things happening. I would need to see a document that exhibits this. If you don't want to or cannot post your file here then make a new document that shows this. Copy some of the layers that result in the "black rectangles" and "portions" problem and paste them into a new document. Check and make sure that the problem still exists. Post that smaller document here.
