RAW Develop Harder than it Looks

Recommended Posts

I just bought Affinity Photo, and I was eager to test it out with a RAW image, but I had terrible results with my RAW image, and the JPEG version done by the camera was much superior to mine attempts.

I've watched the tutorial video, but obviously I need a lot more help with this. How does a person improve at this with a challenging image. For some reason I can't get the exposure and the colors to look anything close to acceptable... sadly.

The RAW developer is still in its infancy, but all the tools you need are there I believe for basic developing. I know that Adobe's Camera raw has a lot more bells and whistles especially in the color portion of it. If it helps I would set the Assistant to NOT apply a tone curve. I find that if I have a flat curve, then I can boost up where I need it. With adjustment brushes will obviously clean up overspill of adjustments. You can also post your image or provide a link to the raw file to view and see if someone can help out.

Hi,

I am also have problems with the RAW Developer, with the version of a picture on my desktop looking far better than the one that opens in developer (it becomes much darker). Then when I hit develop, it looks even worse with all of the smooth lines becoming jagged. At the moment, Affinity Serif is doing the exact opposite of what I purchased it for i.e. making my pictures look worse not better.

Are you leaving the default tone curve on? This is where people get thrown off. The developer works fine.
