How to add black box to my text elements which dynamically changes, when typing sth. else?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I want to create lower thirds for a documentary I am working on. For that I use publisher, added two text elements, an upper and a lower one. Now I would like to add a black box into the background, which fits the size of the text elements and changes dynamically if I change the text. Essentially, that what, if you create a text style and check "Marking" under the color menu point. But when I choose that right now, I cant customize it.

Sorry for this clumsy explanation and dont know how to else describe it, I hope you understand. I attached a sample image to better explain.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What exactly do you try / want to "customize" without success?

If @GarryP's hint and the various paragraph decoration options doesn't meet your need: In APub you may apply a fill colour to an entire text frame.

but it will only work on whole paragraphs rather than selected parts of a paragraph.

As the OP showed in their screenshot, for a background colour applied to selected characters only, a Character Style may be used.

Thanks for pointing this out thomas, also an approach, but Garrys Tip was already exactly what I was trying to do, I did not know how to word it.

Now, I have another question, maybe you can help: When I create text elements, they are "attached / anchored" to the left edge on top. Is there a way to anchor the text element to the downside left edge?
