toolbar icons almost not visible - contrast is so low that they are almost not visible. much more visible in the customization window.  Version 1 contrast was great.

Please allow user to darken the toolbar icons in an update for this version.  This is as much contrast as I can generate - with both the MAC and with your apps are being viewed on a Ben Q monitor with the contrast adjusted to view your program with the greatest contrast - they are next to invisible otherwise.  Thank youimage.png.f251e99ed88c2c0dd4a6099c687c0e08.png

If you search the forum for comments about this, you will find a zillion of them saying the same thing ... but so far Serif has not done much of anything to fix it. 😒

Interesting, on Windows the icon contrast is quite sufficient.

That's strange. A screenshot from my Mac is far clearer:

The users screenshot appears to show the Toolbar without a document open, which is purposefully 'greyed out' as the options cannot be used, and therefore it's expected to render slightly darker.

If they open or create a new document, I would expect the UI to match the screenshot above - as this is the behaviour I experience.

Nevertheless, there are several places in the UI where if the contrast between selected & unselected items was higher, it would be much easier to tell which was which, particularly on large displays like on 27" iMacs. Two examples for the Dark UI:

Some users have complained about this from day 1 of the first release of AD for Macs but little has been done to correct it other than halfway measures like two choices for UI Contrast. The above is with that set to "High" but compared to other apps the contrast is still considerably less than optimal.

No - Toolbar without document is "grayed", not colored.

I asked about the purposes for lack of contrast in the Affinity 2 UI in my post on November 20, 2022. That kicked off numerous discussions about dysfunctional aspects of the Affinity UI.

Are such discussions about dysfunctional user interfaces common in forums for competing software products?

As far as I know, the only apps with this particular issue are the Affinity ones.
