terbald18
Hi! I was working on my book... near the end (hours upon hours of work) and publisher closed it out. When I tried to reopen my afpub document, it says the following: Failed to open file, /User/myname/Desktop/bookname.afpub, The file type is not supported. (Yikes!) I am using macOS Monterey Version 12.7 I have been using this for days and no issues until just about an hour ago. I've looked at several forums on here and cannot find a solution or a too bad so sad. Thanks, Terry
Hangman
Hi @terbald18 and welcome to the forums, Are you using Publisher 1.10.6 or v2.2.0? Would you be happy to upload your Publisher file so we can take a look to see if we experience the same issue with your file? If that's not an option you can request a private Dropbox link by replying to this post so someone from the Serif team can look at your file to try and determine what may be causing the issue... terbald18
Hi. The 1.10.6. A private dropbox link would be great. Thanks

Hangman
Hi @terbald18, Thanks for confirming which version and thanks for the file... Unfortunately I'm seeing the same error message with both Publisher v1.10.6 and v2.2.0... So the team at Serif can investigate further can you confirm whether the file in question resides on an internal hard drive or whether it has been stored on an external or cloud based drive prior to failing to open? terbald18
Hello. Yes, the file is on an internal hard drive. I just don't know quite what to make of it. Thanks so much!
terbald18
It looks like it dumped a lot of my data as it is showing around 4.4 MB of info. It had quite a bit more than that before it died.

terbald18
Yes. Thank goodness. I just did my Time Machine and retrieved 95% of what I lost! So I'm happy about that. I wish I knew why this happened and should i back-up everything every minute or so? Thanks
Hangman
No problem, hopefully, someone from the Serif team can provide a few more answers than I've been able to... I'm glad you've at least been able to retrieve 95% of what you'd lost in the meantime and I hope recreating the missing 5% doesn't prove to be too onerous... Technically it shouldn't be necessary to make backups every minute though I do understand the concern with regards to what's happened... Dan C
Hi terbald18, Sorry you have experienced a corrupted file, I've passed it on to the devs to take a look at, though I can't promise any measure of success or a timeline for a recovery.
