Publisher navigation to and from endnotes -complex procedure

Recommended Posts

The on-line guide says "To move from a note's reference to its body:

  • In the story text, position the insertion point next to the reference or make a text selection that includes the reference.
  • On the Notes panel, click Go to Body."

Reverse procedure the other way.

For me in v2.2 that does not work at all.  When I open the Notes panel there is no such option.

I find I have to right click on the note which brings up a dialog box, I then have to select Notes and then select Go to note reference. (& vice versa).

This seems to me a very long winded way.  Am I missing something shorter?  In the Word source it's simply a double click.

Whether this is the only way or not, the on-line guidance seems to need to change.

The icons in the top right of the panel are the go to note reference and go to note body controls.

Please also see the detailed explanation I wrote in the Publisher manual I've shared in this forum. You can download it from the link in my signature.

Cheers,

Mike, thank you.  I just hadn't hovered over those arrows.  However the popup text seems to be the wrong way round.  If I'm in the body I get the down arrow and text "Go to Body" and vice versa!

It's correct but a bit confusing. Don't think of Body as the body text of the page but as the actual body text of the note. The up arrow icon is Go to Reference which means go to the note marker in the main text. The down arrow icon is Go to Body which means go to the note body, the actual footnote, endnote, or sidenote. The Notes panel refers to the body text of the page as the Main Text, not the Body Text.

Suggestions for Serif to avoid confusion:

  • Rename "In Main Text" to "In Story Text" - that text is a story and is usually referred to as such now
  • Rename "In Note Body" to "In Note Text - the term Body may make users think of the Body text style
  • Rename "Go to Body" to "Go to Note Text" - which would avoid all confusion
  • Rename "Note Body Style" to "Note Text Style"
